Marvin Harrison, WR, Indianapolis ColtsWednesday 1/2, 8:23 PM CT
Marvin Harrison returned to the practice field for the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, and has a good chance of playing in their playoff game next week. Harrison has missed 11 games this season, and even though he was listed as probable for last week’s game, he found himself inactive again.
Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota VikingsWednesday 1/2, 7:12 PM CT
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson earned 46 and a half of the possible 50 votes on his way to the Associated Press’ Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Peterson led the NFC with 1,341 yards and was second in the conference with 13 touchdowns in only 14 games. Cleveland tackle Joe Thomas received the other three and a half votes.
Bo Scaife, TE, Tennessee TitansWednesday 1/2, 6:53 PM CT
The Tennessee Titans lost one of Vince Young’s key targets on Wednesday, as they placed tight end Bo Scaife on injured reserve just days before their wildcard playoff game. Scaife suffered a lacerated liver after being hit by Colts safety Matt Giordano in the second quarter of Sunday night’s game. Scaife finished the game and returned to Nashville with the team, but was hospitalized for a while on Monday.
Dominique Byrd, TE, St. Louis RamsWednesday 1/2, 10:52 AM CT
In case you were wondering why tight end Dominique Byrd wasn’t active for the season finale, it was because he missed a team meeting. "We haven't verified it yet, but he said he had checked himself into a hospital," coach Scott Linehan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He never really told us anything about what it was, but he was sick, and they were able to let him out. So we just decided to leave him home once we found he was OK, and told him we will address it on Monday." You probably didn’t even notice Byrd was inactive because he isn’t a big part of the Rams offense. He could be off the team by the time the 2008 season kicks off.
Matt Leinart, QB, Arizona CardinalsWednesday 1/2, 7:13 AM CT
Matt Leinart is considered the Cardinals starting QB entering the offseason, according to the Arizona Republic. Leinart had a messy second year, compiling a 61.9 rating over 112 pass attempts, then landing on injured reserve in early October. Meanwhile, the Arizona offense was far more electric with Kurt Warner at the controls. No matter what the team declares on this position battle right now, we have to assume both players will get a chance to make a run at next year's starting spot. Keep in mind Ken Whisenhunt isn't afraid to use both players in the same game, something he did a lot in the first quarter of 2007.
Edgerrin James, RB, Arizona CardinalsWednesday 1/2, 6:58 AM CT
Edgerrin James said after the season finale that he wanted to play a bigger role in 2007, the Arizona Republic reports. Perhaps James doesn't realize that his 324 carries were actually the second-most in the league, and his 3.8 yards per carry is nothing to get too excited about.
Lance Briggs, LB, Chicago BearsWednesday 1/2, 6:51 AM CT
Brian Urlacher doesn't expect the Bears to make a strong pitch for Lance Briggs, the Chicago Tribune reports. Briggs, who made $7.235 million this season after signing a one-year tender as the Bears' franchise player, is sure to be a highly sought free agent. "I don't think he'll be here," Urlacher said. "I don't think the Bears will pay him what he wants.
Mike Peterson, LB, Jacksonville JaguarsWednesday 1/2, 6:48 AM CT
Mike Peterson (hand) will not play this weekend against Pittsburgh, Jack Del Rio has confirmed. The team isn't placing Peterson on injured reserve, however; the Jags are hoping that Peterson would be available in a week if Jacksonville is able to advance.
