Larry Allen, G, Dallas CowboysThursday 1/10, 10:40 PM CT
Larry Allen plans to retire, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network. This isn't the way Frank Gore wanted to start the offseason, that's for sure. We'll tip our caps to Allen, who went to 11 Pro Bowls and looks like a sure bet for the Hall of Fame.
Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas CowboysThursday 1/10, 10:02 PM CT
Terrell Owens (ankle) ran routes and caught passes in his return to practice Thursday, showing only a slight limp at times, the AP reports. He seems on track to play in Sunday's playoff game with the Giants.
Brett Favre, QB, New York JetsThursday 1/10, 1:27 PM CT
Brett Favre has yet to say he’ll be back next season, but comments he made on Thursday suggest that he is leaning in that direction. “For the first time in three years, I haven’t thought this could be my last game,” Favre told the Biloxi Sun-Herald. “I would like to continue longer.” Favre also noted that his two daughters are encouraging him to play another season.
Shaun Hill, QB, San Francisco 49ersThursday 1/10, 12:53 PM CT
The 49ers have made a contract offer to quarterback Shaun Hill , who will be unrestricted free agent this offseason. "I'm really excited about [Hill’s] prospects," Bob Lattinville, Hill’s agent, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'm glad for all these many years Shaun was paying attention in the film room. The 49ers are kind enough to be moving quickly on this, and that's appreciated. I think it's a conducive environment because both sides like each other. Now, how do we quantify that value?" Expect to see Lattinville and the 49ers quantify a value before Hill can hit the open market. It is becoming increasingly clear that Shaun will have a legitimate chance to win the starting job in training camp.
Al Wilson, LB, Denver BroncosThursday 1/10, 10:19 AM CT
Former Broncos linebacker Al Wilson has been cleared to return to the football field. He did not play in 2007 after suffering a neck injury in December of 2006. "Al is training and is ready to play," agent Peter Schaffer tells the Denver Post. "There is no greater risk to his health than normal football risks. He is thrilled to get the chance to play again." Wilson, 30, is a free agent.
Clinton Portis, RB, Washington RedskinsThursday 1/10, 10:14 AM CT
Clinton Portis has a big salary cap number for 2008, but at least one member of the organization believes the club needs to bring him back. "Clinton is a back that this team needs and he should be here," running backs coach Earnest Byner tells the Washington Post. Previous reports placed Portis's cap number at $8.4 million in 2008. The Redskins will likely look to restructure his deal rather than release him and turn to Ladell Betts. However, such a decision could rest on who becomes the new head coach.
