Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego ChargersMonday 1/14, 7:34 PM CT
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has been officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Patriots. Rivers landed awkwardly on his right knee after throwing a screen pass that Darren Sproles took 56-yards for a touchdown, and an MRI showed that Rivers sprained his medial collateral ligament. Coach Norv Turner compared Rivers injury to the situation involving Antonio Gates going into last weekend’s game, saying that Rivers would be day-to-day, but had a chance to play.
D.J. Hackett, WR, Carolina PanthersMonday 1/14, 3:47 PM CT
Seahawks wideout D.J. Hackett is looking forward to his chance to move up a couple tax brackets via free agency. "It's one of the things you look forward to as a professional athlete," Hackett told the Tacoma News-Tribune. "A lot of people don't make it this far in football." Hackett will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Hackett will be one of the top free agent receivers this offseason despite the fact he was a disappointment in 2007 because of injuries. His fantasy value next season will depend heavily on where he lands. He may be a popular sleeper once again this summer if he ends up with a pass-happy squad.
Matt Schaub, QB, Houston TexansMonday 1/14, 10:19 AM CT
Matt Schaub recently underwent surgery to repair his dislocated shoulder. He's expected to require 2-3 months to recover, according to the Houston Chronicle. Barring any setbacks, Schaub should be fully healed in time for the Texans' OTAs.
Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego ChargersMonday 1/14, 10:15 AM CT
Philip Rivers was unable to finish Sunday's game after spraining his right knee. He said he could have returned, but since the offense was rolling well under backup Billy Volek's direction, he stayed out, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He now is dealing with two sprained knees, so even if he can play against the Pats this weekend, his effectiveness may be an issue.
LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego ChargersMonday 1/14, 10:10 AM CT
LaDainian Tomlinson left Sunday's game in the first half with a bruised knee and did not return. "I think if we would have got down seven to 10 points and it was getting crunch time in the fourth quarter, and you really needed to put a drive together, I think at that point I would have said, 'You know what? Let me just try it,'" Tomlinson said, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Norv Turner dubbed LT2 as questionable for their matchup with the Pats. He'll probably have an MRI taken Monday, and more should be known about his status in the next couple of days.
Antonio Gates, TE, San Diego ChargersMonday 1/14, 10:03 AM CT
Amazingly, Antonio Gates was able to suit up and play Sunday, despite dislocating his left big toe just a week earlier. He'll see a toe specialist today to help determine whether he'll be able to suit up to face the Pats this weekend, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "The way I feel today, I don't know," Gates said. "I'm putting weight on it, running, cutting. The only thing is, I'm not supposed to be doing it. It is a dislocated toe." He was mostly used as a decoy, catching just two passes for 28 yards, and clearly wasn't anywhere near full speed. Even if he can face the Pats, you should expect him to remain very limited.
