John Beck, QB, Miami DolphinsMonday 2/4, 6:49 PM CT
The Dolphins hired Dan Henning on Monday to take over as the team's OC. Henning returns to the place where he was a QB and WR coach in 1979 and 1980. Henning has also worked with Bill Parcells when they were both in New York with the Jets. The Fish have plenty of holes to fill on offense starting with decisions at QB, RB and WR, so Henning figures to have his work cut out for himself.
Ellis Hobbs III, CB, New England PatriotsMonday 2/4, 6:20 PM CT
Ellis Hobbs III will undergo off-season surgery on an injured groin (sports hernia) in his attempt to put the injury behind him. Hobbs was beaten on the game-winning TD by Plaxico Burress after re-aggrivating the injury in the first quarter of the Super Bowl.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsMonday 2/4, 4:13 PM CT
Chad Johnson was added to the Pro Bowl on Monday, the fifth time he has been named to the AFC team in his career. Johnson will replace the Patriots Randy Moss who apparently suffered an injury in SB 42. Johnson had another solid season this year producing 93 receptions for a club record 1440 yards to go along with eight TD receptions.
Kellen Winslow Jr, TE, Cleveland BrownsMonday 2/4, 3:53 PM CT
Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr will sub for San Diego's Antonio Gates in Sunday's Pro Bowl. Gates is bowing out of the game because of the toe injury he suffered in the playoffs.
Mike Rucker, DE, Carolina PanthersMonday 2/4, 2:13 PM CT
After spending more than a month contemplating his future, veteran defensive end Mike Rucker said Monday he's decided against retirement and hopes the Panthers want him back, according to the AP. "I'm just going off the way my body feels and the way my heart feels," Rucker said. "At the end of the day, I still have that drive and I still have something to offer."
Randy Moss, WR, New England PatriotsMonday 2/4, 2:10 PM CT
Randy Moss followed the lead of Tom Brady by pulling out of the Pro Bowl on Monday, according to the AP. It was disclosed Moss suffered some type of injury in Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the Giants. Chad Johnson will replace Moss on the AFC squad.
Tom Brady, QB, New England PatriotsMonday 2/4, 1:22 PM CT
Tom Brady will not participate in this weekend's Pro Bowl because of the sprained ankle he battled through in Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the Giants, according to the AP. Brady will be replaced in the game by Cleveland's Derek Anderson. There was zero chance that Brady was going to play in this meaningless game. He has supermodels to date.
Michael Vick, QB, Atlanta FalconsMonday 2/4, 10:50 AM CT
A federal judge ruled Monday that the Falcons can only recover $3.75 million of the $20 million in bonus money paid to suspended star quarterback Michael Vick, according to the AP. The Falcons sought to recover the entire bonuses paid to Vick between 2004 and 2007 after Vick pleaded guilty to federal charges in a dogfighting operation.
Antrel Rolle, S, Arizona CardinalsMonday 2/4, 10:46 AM CT
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said that his team is moving Antrel Rolle to free safety, according to the Arizona Republic. Rolle has been told about it and is excited about the move. He had three interceptions returned for touchdowns last season and another called back on a penalty, so the former first-round draft pick is clearly more effective as a safety than as a corner.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsMonday 2/4, 10:40 AM CT
Citing an unnamed source, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported over the weekend that Chad Johnson "feels betrayed by Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis" because Lewis "quit speaking to his receiver early in the season." The Cincinnati Enquirer contacted Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, about the report, and Rosenhaus delivered the following cryptic response: "Our plan is for Chad Johnson to play football in 2008. That is how I will respond to the report." Johnson's contract calls for a $3 million base salary in 2008, and he would count $6.3 million against the Bengals' salary cap next season. If they were to trade or release Johnson, which is highly unlikely, the Bengals would probably hold out for at least a second-round draft pock as compensation. This has the makings of an ugly situation.
Matt Leinart, QB, Arizona CardinalsMonday 2/4, 10:28 AM CT
The Arizona Republic reports that Matt Leinart is going to consult with renowned Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Ala., about some soreness in his knee. An MRI revealed no structural problems but Andrews is going to take a look. Trips to see Andrews are rarely a good thing, but even if Leinart has a problem he's got plenty of time to heal up before training camp starts in July. He'll enter camp as the Cardinals' starting quarterback, but the resurgent Kurt Warner will be ready and waiting at the first sign of trouble.
