Dominic Rhodes, RB, Indianapolis ColtsSunday 2/17, 7:20 PM CT
Dominic Rhodes will likely be released or at the very least be asked to take a pay cut by the Raiders according to a report in the Contra Costa Times. Rhodes would be at best the RB2 in Oakland behind newly signed Justin Fargas, but there is also the chance that Michael Bush, who missed all of this season with a broken leg, could eventually push Rhodes into the RB3 spot anyway. The bottom line with Rhodes is that unless he finds himself on another team to start 2008 he doesn't appear to have any more value that he held last season.
Asante Samuel, CB, Philadelphia EaglesSunday 2/17, 7:04 PM CT
Asante Samuel could be headed to the NY Jets according to a speculative report in the Boston Herald. The Jets are $20-30 million under the salary cap and their head coach, Eric Mangini, is Samuel's old DB coach from New England. The report also goes on to name Cleveland as a possible destination. The fact is that this will likely come down to only two factors - money and a chance to win, likely in that order.
Ty Law, CB, Sunday 2/17, 6:59 PM CT
Ty Law could return to the Patriots if/when he is eventually released by the Chiefs according to a report in the Boston Globe. Law is almost certain to be released, and "...those close to him say he would be open to the possibility of a return - if the price is right." Law will be entering his 14th season in 2008 and still has something to offer even if his individual totals have started to wane.
Donte Stallworth, WR, Cleveland BrownsSunday 2/17, 6:53 PM CT
Donte Stallworth likely will not have his $6 million option picked up by the Patriots according to a report on Pro Football Talk. If this rumor does come to pass it wouldn't be at all surprising. Stallworth had a solid season with 46 receptions and 697 yards, but he continues to confound with his inconsistency. Plus, Tom Brady can make anyone look good so the team doesn't need to throw multi-millions at Stallworth to be a WR3.
Troy Williamson, WR, Jacksonville JaguarsSunday 2/17, 6:09 PM CT
Troy Williamson just might get one more chance to prove he belongs in the NFL, that is if Vikings WR coach George Stewart has a say in the matter. "I'd love to get the opportunity to work with Williamson for another season," said Stewart in a report in the Star Tribune. Williamson has tried seemingly everything in his attempt to cure his inability to hold on to the ball, but alas he has been unable to find a cure up until this point. Still supremely talented, Williamson isn't someone to roster next year at the draft table unless a whole lot changes between now and then.
Amani Toomer, WR, New York GiantsSunday 2/17, 6:03 PM CT
Amani Toomer wants to continue playing football according to a report in Newsday. "I haven't thought about retiring at all," he said. "There are still some things I want to accomplish." Toomer, who will be 34-years-old in September, put up solid numbers during the regular season (59 receptions, 760 yards) while he gained the implicit trust of Eli Manning. He is still a solid hands receiver, and he should be able to have another productive season or two in a support role.
Zach Thomas, LB, Dallas CowboysSunday 2/17, 5:58 PM CT
Zach Thomas is drawing interest from a plethora of teams after being released by the Dolphins, and he will visit the Saints on Tuesday according to NFL.com. Thomas missed a ton of action in '07 due to concussion/headaches, and though he is 34-years-old, he still has totaled at least 140 tackles in each of his last six healthy seasons.
Roscoe Parrish, WR, Buffalo BillsSunday 2/17, 10:08 AM CT
Roscoe Parrish was arrested on early Saturday morning and charged with driving up the influence, the AP reports. Parrish was in Miami, and he was later released on a $1,000 bond.
Ethan Albright, T, Washington RedskinsSunday 2/17, 8:28 AM CT
The Redskins have agreed on a one-year contract with long snapper Ethan Albright, who was scheduled to be a free agent, the Washington Post reports.
Todd Collins, QB, Washington RedskinsSunday 2/17, 8:24 AM CT
New Redskins head coach Jim Zorn called Todd Collins this week to tell the veteran that he wants him back in 2008. Collins will be an unrestricted free agent. Zorn already informed Jason Campbell that he will be the starter, and Collins would return as a backup, the Washington Post reports. Collins may go in search of a starting job.
Alge Crumpler, TE, Tennessee TitansSunday 2/17, 8:16 AM CT
The Panthers will take a look at free agent Alge Crumpler once he clears waivers, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Cedric Benson, RB, Chicago BearsSunday 2/17, 7:40 AM CT
The Bears will concentrate on offense during the offseason and in the amateur draft. The team will not pass judgment on Cedric Benson, the fourth pick in 2005, according to the Chicago Sun Times. General manager Jerry Angelo has vowed to bring in some competition for Benson and build the offense. The report mentions that believing this kind of talk from Angelo is difficult to buy due to the money it would take to sign another high profile young running back. It would also offer "The Truth" in how the team feels regarding Benson. If, however, Darren McFadden is still available when the Bears are on the clock -- he will be hard to pass on.
