Demorrio Williams, LB, Kansas City ChiefsSaturday 3/1, 11:41 PM CT
Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reported Saturday night that the Chiefs have signed LB Demorrio Williams to a five-year, $16 million package, with $5.5 million of the money guaranteed. Early rumors suggest that Donnie Edwards will move to the middle, and Williams will move into his outside linebacker slot. This leaves Napolean Harris as the odd man out in the mix.
Lance Briggs, LB, Chicago BearsSaturday 3/1, 9:31 PM CT
The Bears re-signed three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs on Saturday night, according to the Chicago Tribune. Briggs has agreed to a $36 million, six-year contract to remain with the organization. This is a huge move for a Bears defense that struggled last year. Losing Briggs would have resulted in a significant downgrade to the fantasy value of middle backer Brian Urlacher.
Jason Taylor, DE, Washington RedskinsSaturday 3/1, 8:36 PM CT
Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, is reporting that the Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor will move away from South Florida, coming to a decision not to play for the Dolphins under Bill Parcells. What the Phins can get for Taylor is open to discussion. Cole notes that three sources close to the Dolphins organization said this week that Taylor and the team graciously agreed to part ways between now and the NFL draft April 26.
Jimmy Wilkerson, DT, Tampa Bay BuccaneersSaturday 3/1, 8:29 PM CT
Jimmy Wilkerson signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, this according to the AP. Wilkerson, a career Chief, played in the same Cover-2 the Bucs utilize the last two seasons under KC head man Herm Edwards.
Keary Colbert, WR, Denver BroncosSaturday 3/1, 8:21 PM CT
Adam Schefter of NFL.com is reporting that the Broncos signed former Panthers receiver Keary Colbert on Saturday. The package is a three-year deal worth $2.4 million per year. Colbert has more fantasy value in Denver than he would have had in Carolina. That value still rests in deep formats.
Charlie Anderson, LB, Miami DolphinsSaturday 3/1, 8:17 PM CT
The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent linebacker Charlie Anderson on Saturday, according to NFL.com. The deal is being reported as a three-year package for $7.5 million, including a $2.5 million signing bonus.
Devery Henderson, WR, New Orleans SaintsSaturday 3/1, 6:52 PM CT
The Saints held on to wide out Devery Henderson by re-signing him to a one-year, $2 million contract, according to the NFL Network. Henderson was thought to be headed to Tampa Bay, but decided to stay in New Orleans when the bottom line was evaluated. Henderson's inconsistent and injury prone history relegates his fantasy value to deep formats.
Aaron Stecker, RB, New Orleans SaintsSaturday 3/1, 6:48 PM CT
The Saints agreed to a one-year deal with tailback Aaron Stecker on Saturday, this according to the The Times-Picayune. The contract calls for Stecker to receive $1.4 million for 2008-09. Stecker's contract is a steal compared to second-year running back Reggie Bush's, whose 3.7 career rushing average doesn't equate to his multi-million dollar package.
Von Hutchins, CB, Atlanta FalconsSaturday 3/1, 6:27 PM CT
The Atlanta Falcons came to an agreement with former Texans veteran cornerback Von Hutchins on Saturday, notes the team website. Hutchins spent two seasons with Indianapolis before joining Houston in 2006. Hutchins career totals include 142 tackles (112 solo) and two interceptions. The terms of the deal are not yet known.
Donte Stallworth, WR, Cleveland BrownsSaturday 3/1, 6:23 PM CT
NFL Network's Adam Schefter is now reporting that the Browns' deal with free agent Donte Stallworth is done. The terms of the agreement will be disclosed later tonight. Stay tuned.
Bernard Berrian, WR, Minnesota VikingsSaturday 3/1, 6:19 PM CT
The Vikings have officially come to terms on a six-year deal with Bernard Berrian, this according to Fox Sports. Berrian was considered by many to have been the second best talent on the market behind Randy Moss, and while that might be true the discrepancy between the two is huge. Even as the No. 1 receiver for the Vikings, Berrian is a fringe second receiver in traditional formats.
Spencer Johnson, DT, Buffalo BillsSaturday 3/1, 6:06 PM CT
Bills' beat writer Chris Brown, reporting on the team website, notes that acquiring former Viking Spencer Johnson as a free agent will not get a lot of pub as far as media is concerned, but for a 286-pound man he is freakishly athletic. Johnson is versatile and can play all of the D-line positions. With Buffalo's system so heavy on rotation, Scott suggested that the Bills will use Johnson much like they used Anthony Hargrove, as an explosive and disruptive force that will be moved from down-to-down.
Donte Stallworth, WR, Cleveland BrownsSaturday 3/1, 6:00 PM CT
Donte Stallworth is expected to sign with Cleveland sometime tonight, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network. Stallworth, a six-year veteran, had 46 receptions for 697 yards and three touchdowns with the Patriots last season. There wouldn't be any increase in Stallworth's fantasy value joining an already talented group that includes Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards.
Alan Faneca, G, New York JetsSaturday 3/1, 5:42 PM CT
Alan Faneca has made it official, signing a five-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, this according to the NFL Network. Faneca, 31, was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection with the Steelers. His addition to the left side of the Jets offensive line juices the fantasy value of current starter, tailback Thomas Jones.
Marcus Stroud, DT, Buffalo BillsSaturday 3/1, 3:54 PM CT
The Bills have acquired Marcus Stroud in a trade on Saturday, according to the AP. Details of what the Jags received in return were not immediately available, but we'll have more information as it comes in.
Erik Coleman, S, Atlanta FalconsSaturday 3/1, 3:16 PM CT
Erik Coleman has signed with the Falcons, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Jets opted against re-signing Coleman and let him become a free agent. The contract for Coleman, who had 51 tackles in 2007, is for four years.
Randy Moss, WR, New England PatriotsSaturday 3/1, 2:58 PM CT
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported Saturday that those who know Randy Moss say he is inching closer to the point of frustration at the lack of progress he has made for a new deal with the Patriots, according to NFL.com. Apparently, it's reached the point that Moss now is willing to take free-agent visits and listen to offers from other teams. Schefter went on to say there's a chance that the Packers could make a move on Moss in an attempt to woo Brett Favre away from retiring. Favre's decision on next season could come soon, and if Moss was his top receiver, you could presume that Favre would return.
Bernard Berrian, WR, Minnesota VikingsSaturday 3/1, 2:46 PM CT
Bernard Berrian was seen wearing a Vikings cap while at their headquarters on Saturday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. That may be a sign that he wants to sign with the Vikings, but a more telling sign was what personnel head Rick Spielman said when asked if Berrian was there to negotiate a contract: "Well, he’s not here to visit Minnesota." If Berrian can't work out a deal with the Vikes, then the Raiders, Titans and Niners are expected to take a stab. Meanwhile, things just get darker by the hour in Chi-town.
Bryant Johnson, WR, San Francisco 49ersSaturday 3/1, 2:10 PM CT
Bryant Johnson is in Buffalo Saturday to meet with the Bills about possibly signing as a free agent. However, if he leaves Buffalo without a deal, he may head to Tampa next to talk with the Bucs, who also are interested in his services, according to the Tampa Tribune. The Bears are also on the list of teams who want to talk with the wide receiver. If he lands in the right spot and can start, he could have some sleeper value in 2008.
Ben Troupe, TE, Tampa Bay BuccaneersSaturday 3/1, 2:05 PM CT
Ben Troupe is in Tampa Saturday to meet with Bucs officials, according to the Tampa Tribune. His representatives said he has no current plans to meet with other teams, as he clearly hopes to work something out with the Bucs. The club already has Alex Smith and just signed blocking tight end John Gilmore, so we may not see a resurgence from Troupe if he signs. He caught 55 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns back in 2005 but has done next to nothing (18 catches, 197 yards, 2 TDs) the past two seasons.
John Gilmore, TE, Tampa Bay BuccaneersSaturday 3/1, 2:00 PM CT
John Gilmore has agreed to terms of a three-year deal with the Bucs, according to the Tampa Tribune. Details of the contract weren't released, but it's presumably for much more than the league minimum, which is all the Bears anted up in their offer. Gilmore is an outstanding blocker, but he won't have any fantasy value; he had just 11 catches over the past five seasons.
Mark Simoneau, LB, New Orleans SaintsSaturday 3/1, 12:08 PM CT
Mark Simoneau ended up signing a contract to stick with the Saints, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The club wasn't expected to re-sign Simoneau, who likely will move into a reserve role following the acquisition of Jonathan Vilma.
Chris Clemons, DE, Philadelphia EaglesSaturday 3/1, 12:05 PM CT
It appears that Chris Clemons is close to signing a contract with the Eagles, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I'm looking forward to coming in there and finalizing things so Chris can get started with his off-season training program," his agent, Don Henderson, said last night. "They targeted Chris and we targeted them. The process started early this morning." Clemons is actually in Philadelphia and slated to undergo a physical Saturday morning. Clemons had eight sacks as a reserve for the Raiders last season and would give the Eagles the pass-rushing attacker they're looking for.
Terry Glenn, WR, Dallas CowboysSaturday 3/1, 11:55 AM CT
Terry Glenn has opted against undergoing mircrofracture surgery, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'm excited about coming back, and I'm glad the team has the confidence in me to return," Glenn said. "I think we have a great team, and I want to be a part of it. I'm very thankful to be around great ownership." He's going to need the procedure at some point but aims to play through his ailing knee next season. Considering he had two surgeries on it and took part in just eight games last season, it's hard to believe he can pull it off in 2008.
Billy Volek, QB, San Diego ChargersSaturday 3/1, 11:44 AM CT
Billy Volek decided against leaving the Chargers as a free agent, agreeing to a new contract on Friday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Details of the deal weren't available, but he reportedly could have made more money and seen more action with some of his suitors, but he wanted to stick with the Chargers coaching staff and teammates.
Kyle Brady, TE, New England PatriotsSaturday 3/1, 11:37 AM CT
The Patriots have released Kyle Brady from their roster, according to the Boston Globe. Brady, who had just nine catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns last season, is dealing wtih a shoulder injury that likely would have affected his ability to take part in training camp.
Gibril Wilson, S, Oakland RaidersSaturday 3/1, 11:34 AM CT
Gibril Wilson agreed to a contract with the Raiders on Friday, according to the San Francisco Gate. It's a six-year contract for $39 million, including a $16 million signing bonus. He reportedly had been looking for $5 million a year and an $11 million signing bonus, so it looks like he got even more than he'd hoped for.
Derek Anderson, QB, Cleveland BrownsSaturday 3/1, 11:27 AM CT
The contract that Derek Anderson has agreed to with the Browns will pay him at least $24 million, with $2 million more in incentives and $13.5 million to $14.5 million guaranteed over the next three years, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. GM Phil Savage stressed Friday that Anderson will start for the Browns in 2008 and will not be traded. That means that Brady Quinn will continue to work in a reserve role for the foreseeable future.
Jeremy Shockey, TE, New Orleans SaintsSaturday 3/1, 11:22 AM CT
The Giants have no intention of trading Jeremy Shockey this offseason, according to a source cited by the New York Daily News. The Saints were one of several teams that recently contacted the club about the availability of the tight end, but all were rebuffed. Shockey is expected to be recovered from his broken leg and ready to start for the Giants next season.
Dhani Jones, LB, Cincinnati BengalsSaturday 3/1, 11:14 AM CT
Dhani Jones has agreed to terms on a three-year contract to stick with the Bengals, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Jones joined the Bengals in the middle of September and finished the season second in tackles for the Bengals with 111.
John Lynch, S, Denver BroncosSaturday 3/1, 11:00 AM CT
John Lynch had all but decided to call it quits, but he changed course after meeting with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen on Friday morning, then with coach Mike Shanahan later in the day, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "I didn't sleep at all (Thursday) night; I was gone, that was it, I was out of there," Lynch said. "I went as far as to write a statement telling everyone bye and had decided that was it." Instead, Lynch agreed to a one-year deal Friday for next season. It will be Lynch's 16th season in the NFL. He had 59 tackles in 2007.
Mike Flynn, OT, Baltimore RavensSaturday 3/1, 10:50 AM CT
The Ravens released Mike Flynn on Friday, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I'm a little surprised but not shocked," Flynn said. "As soon as they fired Brian [Billick], my antenna was up. Now, with it happening, I'm sad. I've been here 11 years, a third of my life. Some of my best memories in my life have been in Baltimore. Right now, it's tough." Flynn had been considering retirement but sounded Friday like he still might be willing to sign on with a new team and keep playing.
Larry Tripplett, DT, Seattle SeahawksSaturday 3/1, 10:44 AM CT
The Bills released Larry Tripplett from their roster on Friday, according to the Buffalo News. He had just 35 tackles last season, so he wasn't really worth the $1 million roster bonus he was due. At this time, John McCargo is set to start in Tripplett's stead.
David Kircus, WR, Miami DolphinsSaturday 3/1, 8:54 AM CT
The Dolphins signed receiver David Kircus on Friday, according to ESPN. Kircus, who was a free agent but had not qualified as an unrestricted one, is just one of the seven free agent signings by Miami this offseason. The ex-Bronco is expected to contribute in a receiving role and as a key special teamer in 2008, but won't have any traditional fantasy value.
Justin Smith, DE, San Francisco 49ersSaturday 3/1, 8:45 AM CT
San Francisco and defensive end Justin Smith agreed to a six-year, $45 million contract that included $20 million in guarantees, this according to ESPN. Smith, the fourth overall pick in the 2001 out of Missouri, went from being the franchise tag in 2007, to unprotected this offseason. Smith has only 43 ½ career sacks in his NFL tenure, and was limited to only two last season. Smith is durable and could excel under the tutelage of Mike Nolan
Leigh Bodden, CB, Detroit LionsSaturday 3/1, 12:00 AM CT
The Browns traded cornerback Leigh Bodden and a third-round pick to the Lions Friday in exchange for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. Bodden had six picks last year for the Browns and has emerged as one of the better corners in the league. He'll replace Fernando Bryant, who was released this week.
