Marlon McCree, S, Denver BroncosSaturday 3/8, 10:41 PM CT
SS Marlon McCree has signed with the Denver Broncos, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. McCree, 30, has played 30 games over the last two seasons for the San Diego Chargers. He started his career with Jacksonville in 2001, moving to Jacksonville, Houston and Carolina before settling in with the Chargers. He has 421 total tackles in 106 career games. That's two safeties in the course of a few hours. McCree seems like the best fit to push veteran John Lynch for the starting job at strong safety while Marquand Manuel should get a good look at free safety in competition with Hamza Abdullah.
Julius Jones, RB, Seattle SeahawksSaturday 3/8, 8:52 PM CT
With news of Julius Jones signing with the Seattle Seahawks and rumors swirling of the potential RB situation up north, Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports Jones will make $5.5 million this year, according to ProFootballTalk.com. According to NFLPA records, Shaun Alexander’s (the incumbent RB of choice in Seattle) base salary is scheduled at $4.475 million in 2008. Jones’ deal is for four years and $16 million. In contrast, Alexander is scheduled to earn base salaries totaling $24 million over the next four seasons, making Jones the more affordable long-term option. T.J. Duckett was also signed recent and is reportedly receiving $4 million in guaranteed money. The writing is on the wall. Things are going to change in Seattle, and it appears Alexander's failures after getting his financial rewards are coming home to roost.
Marquand Manuel, S, Denver BroncosSaturday 3/8, 8:10 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, the Denver Broncos have signed SS Marquand Manuel to a three-year contract, according to the Denver Post. Manual will receive $1.5 million a year in his deal, $2 million if he starts. And he will compete with John Lynch and Hamza Abdullah for one of the two safety positions. The Broncos will be the fifth team for Manuel, who will be entering his seventh season. He has played strong and free safety while making stops in Cincinnati, Seattle, Green Bay and Carolina.
Brian Kelly, CB, Detroit LionsSaturday 3/8, 4:51 PM CT
CB Brian Kelly has signed with the Detroit Lions, according to ESPN.com. Kelly agreed Saturday to a three-year deal with the Bucs, but terms of the deal weren't immediately available. Kelly, a former second-round pick, started 73 games in his 10 seasons with the Bucs.
Joey Harrington, QB, New Orleans SaintsSaturday 3/8, 3:51 PM CT
Joey Harrington could re-sign with the Falcons as soon as this week, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Apparently, they released him Wednesday due to salary-cap reasons more than because he's not a good quarterback.
Kelly Herndon, CB, Saturday 3/8, 10:40 AM CT
The Titans released Kelly Herndon on Friday, according to the Tennessean. He took part in just three games last season and had only two tackles.
Adam Jones, CB, Dallas CowboysSaturday 3/8, 10:37 AM CT
Detroit, Oakland, Kansas City, Houston, New Orleans and New England are among those to have expressed at least some level of interest in acquiring Pacman Jones from the Titans, but the Cowboys appear to be the most interested team, according to the Tennessean. Of course, at this point, teams are hesitant to trade for him until Roger Goodell gives some sign that he might lift Pacman's suspension. No word on whether the troubled cornerback would stay at the "White House" if he lands in Dallas.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsSaturday 3/8, 10:25 AM CT
Former Bengals defensive lineman Shaun Smith reportedly said during a Browns event this week that Chad Johnson punched coach Marvin Lewis at halftime of the Bengals' 31-17 wild-card playoff loss to the Steelers Jan. 8, 2006, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. A transcript of a video, since removed from YouTube, goes like this: "He swung on Marvin. (Johnson) shattered the training room glass. He swung on Marvin (and) hit Marvin in the eye. Then he tried to swing on wide receivers coach Hue Jackson, who's now in Baltimore." The Bengals had no comment on the report, but it's clear that Lewis and Ocho Cinco have personal issues that need to be resolved if the wide receiver is going to stay in Cincy and the Bengals want to succeed next season.
Samari Rolle, CB, Baltimore RavensSaturday 3/8, 10:16 AM CT
Samari Rolle has been cleared to play next season and had his contract restructured around his epilepsy condition, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Basically, if I play, I'm under the original conditions of my contract," Rolle said. The cornerback missed 10 games last season due to seizures that resulted from his epilepsy, but it appears that doctors have found the right medication to control them.
