Nathan Jones, CB, Miami DolphinsFriday 3/14, 7:51 PM CT
The Miami Dolphins signed cornerback Nathan Jones to a two-year contract on Friday, according to the Sports Network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In 51 regular-season games, the 25-year-old Jones has totaled 58 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles, but more importantly, Jones has been a standout performer on special teams (a huge reason why Bill Parcells wanted to bring him to Miami). Jones is the 11th player from the Cowboys signed by the Dolphins since the start of free agency on February 29.
Dan Klecko, DT, Philadelphia EaglesFriday 3/14, 7:47 PM CT
Dan Klecko , a former Colt and Patriot, has signed a one-year agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL.com. Klecko has spent his years in the NFL as a defensive tackle, but the Eagles report they intend to move him to fullback and train him to block for Pro Bowl RB Brian Westbrook. That could be a huge benefit for a team that already relies heavily on the talented and versatile rusher and fantasy owners could see greater rewards as a result.
Ben Utecht, TE, Cincinnati BengalsFriday 3/14, 7:39 PM CT
Following an earlier report, TE Ben Utecht has signed an offer sheet with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to SLAM Sports. The Bengals' offer would give Utecht a three-year agreement. As a restricted free agent, Indianapolis now has the option to match that offer to retain Utecht or to pass and let him move to Cincinnati. If the Bengals sign him on, they will not be required to provide Indianapolis with compensation as Utecht entered the league as a college free agent. The numbers from last season (31 catches for 364 yards and one touchdown) may indicate Utecht is not a major contributor, but as is often the case, the tight end offers much more that won't translate in numbers and he would be a substantial upgrade at the position for Cincinnati. Stay tuned.
William Joseph, DT, Oakland RaidersFriday 3/14, 7:25 PM CT
Free agent defensive tackle William Joseph has signed a contract to join the Oakland Raiders, according to CBSSportsline.com. Terms of the agreement have yet to be disclosed. Joseph missed all of last season for the New York Giants with a back injury. He was the 25th-overall pick out of Miami in the 2003 draft. He played in 55 games his first four seasons before the back injury, recording seven sacks and 52 solo tackles. The Raiders were looking for help on the defensive line after allowing a league-worst 4.8 yards per carry and finishing second-to-last by allowing 145.9 yards per game. Warren Sapp retired after the season, leaving a void in the middle of Oakland's defense. The Raiders resigned Tommy Kelly to a seven-year contract that guarantees him more than $18 million and now have added Joseph.
Eugene Wilson, S, Tampa Bay BuccaneersFriday 3/14, 7:19 PM CT
Safety Eugene Wilson has signed a one-year agreement to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Wilson will earn $1.8 million next season with $500,000 in guarantees. The Bucs plan to use Wilson at cornerback in nickel situations. He also could back up both safety positions. Wilson, 27, has started only 10 games in the last two seasons due to injuries. He has recorded 10 interceptions since entering the NFL in 2003.
Derrick Ward, RB, New York GiantsFriday 3/14, 3:33 PM CT
The Giants have decided to keep Derrick Ward in the fold for next season by signing him to a one-year, $1 million contract, according to the New York Daily News. He could earn another million in incentives. With Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Reuben Droughns already in the fold it's going to be tought for Ward to make much fantasy noise unless injuries open up playing time again in 2008. He racked up 602 yards and three touchdowns last season before injuries cut his season short.
Marcus Trufant, CB, Seattle SeahawksFriday 3/14, 1:28 PM CT
Marcus Trufant received a counter-proposal from the Seahawks, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. The exact amount of the offer is not known, but it's believed to be somewhere between where the two sides began when free agency opened up. He's proposed to take a lower amount than what Asante Samuel got in order to free up cap space.
Ben Utecht, TE, Cincinnati BengalsFriday 3/14, 1:23 PM CT
The Jets are out of the mix to sign Ben Utecht to a contract, according to the New York Daily News. Apparently, he's demanding more money than the Jets feel he deserves, though the Bengals may be prepared to make an offer. He's a restricted free agent, so the Colts can match any offer he gets.
Robert Ferguson, WR, Minnesota VikingsFriday 3/14, 1:19 PM CT
Robert Ferguson is expected to re-sign with the Vikings as soon as Friday, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He likely will ink a one-year deal and have little fantasy value again next season.
James Hall, DE, St. Louis RamsFriday 3/14, 1:17 PM CT
James Hall is meeting with the Vikings on Friday, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Released by the Rams this offseason, Hall recently met with the Bills but didn't sign an offer.
Cadillac Williams, RB, Tampa Bay BuccaneersFriday 3/14, 1:12 PM CT
Cadillac Williams said he believes he will play next season, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "Oh yeah, no doubt," Williams said. "I definitely have a great shot. I feel good about it." It's going to be a tough hill to climb as the oft-injured running back works his way back from last season's knee injury. The Bucs have stocked up on running backs this offseason, just in case Caddy isn't ready to roll in 2008.
Derrick Pope, LB, Minnesota VikingsFriday 3/14, 1:07 PM CT
The Vikings have signed Derrick Pope to a free-agent deal, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He'll replace Dontarrious Thomas, who left for San Francisco, as a backup linebacker and chip in on special teams.
D.J. Hackett, WR, Carolina PanthersFriday 3/14, 1:01 PM CT
The Redskins made D.J. Hackett a contract offer, but he opted against making a decision on Thursday, according to the Charlotte Observer. Hackett was slated to meet with the Bucs in Tampa Thursday night and Friday before moving on to Charlotte Friday and Saturday. We'll have more updates as things continue to develop for the free agent.
Jeremy Newberry, G, Oakland RaidersFriday 3/14, 12:52 PM CT
Jeremy Newberry has received contract offers from the Bucs and another team, but the Raiders have yet to make a bid, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Newberry said he still wants to stick with Oakland, so we'll have to wait to see if they eventually offer him a contract.
Kevin Carter, DE, Tampa Bay BuccaneersFriday 3/14, 12:48 PM CT
Kevin Carter met with the Raiders but left Oakland without a deal in place, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Raiders are looking for some depth after losing Warren Sapp and Chris Clemons this offseason. Carter's expected to continue talks with them next week, so he may eventually work out a deal with the Raiders.
Mike Wright, DT, New England PatriotsFriday 3/14, 12:41 PM CT
The Patriots re-signed Mike Wright on Friday, though terms of the deal were not released, according to the Boston Globe. Wright's the top backup at center for the Pats, and he can also play end and takes part on special teams packages.
Al Wilson, LB, Denver BroncosFriday 3/14, 12:30 PM CT
Al Wilson and the Broncos are involved in a grievance hearing that began last week, according to the Denver Post. Wilson's grievance claims the Broncos violated Article XLIV of the Collective Bargaining Agreement because he was not told by the team's physician his neck injury "could be significantly aggravated by continued performance." More details about the hearing should come out soon. The Browns currently are considering signing Wilson, if they fail to keep free agent Chaun Thompson in Cleveland. Wilson missed all of last season due to the neck injury.
Samari Rolle, CB, Baltimore RavensFriday 3/14, 12:21 PM CT
Under Samari Rolle's restructured contract, the cornerback is slated to make $1.4 million, $2.5 million less than he would have made under his original contract, according to the Baltimore Sun. However, he could reach the original $3.9 million if he meets playing-time incentives. Rolle missed 10 games last season while battling epilepsy, which is why he agreed to restructure his deal to stick with the team.
Jonathan Ogden, T, Baltimore RavensFriday 3/14, 12:15 PM CT
Jonathan Ogden said that the Ravens "know to proceed with their offseason plans as if I'm retiring," according to the Baltimore Sun. "I have not officially retired," Ogden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "So if I come back, it's great, they said, but they're proceeding as if I'm not." Ogden has been dealing with a hyperextended toe since last offseason, though he told the Review-Journal that he recently taped up the digit and ran. If he decides to play next season, a decision may not come until training camp or the preseason.
William James, DB, Buffalo BillsFriday 3/14, 12:09 PM CT
William James met with the Bills on Thursday, according to the Buffalo News. James, formally known as Will Peterson, would give the Bills some much-needed size in their secondary if he signs.
Bryant Johnson, WR, San Francisco 49ersFriday 3/14, 12:04 PM CT
Bryant Johnson has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Niners, according to ESPN.com. If he's able to win a starting role, Johnson could have some decent value in Mike Martz's offense next season.
