LenDale White, RB, Tennessee TitansSunday 3/16, 7:55 PM CT
LenDale White has reportedly been arrested in Denver on Saturday, according to 9News.com. White was ”cited” in Denver on Saturday on several charges — destruction of property, disobedience to a lawful order, and interference and resisting. The former USC tailback reportedly had arthroscopic knee surgery earlier in the off-season and hails from the Denver area. Thus far additional details have not been provided, but we'll bring them to you as soon as we get 'em.
Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, Oakland RaidersSunday 3/16, 4:38 PM CT
With the Raiders reportedly working on a deal to add all-pro CB DeAngelo Hall to the roster, the discussion may turn to the effects on young stud CB Nnamdi Asomugha, according to ProFootballTalk.com. For Hall to come to Oakland, the team will have to agree to a long-term, high dollar contract (rumored to be in the neighborhood of $10 mil). On the other hand, the Raiders designated Asomugha, viewed by many as one of few corners in the NFL worthy of discussion as the top player at the position, as their exclusive franchise tag player. Because of that decision, Asomugha will be paid the average of the top five contracts in the NFL at the position... and now the Raiders are looking to add one of those huge contracts to the equation. As a result, many are watching to see if the Hall signing comes to fruition, for the Raiders may, in essence, be forced to revoked that tag as they will no longer be able to afford both players. If that happens, the young CB becomes an unrestricted free agent and it will be free-agent bedlam as teams line up to throw offers at Nnamdi Asomugha. Stay tuned.
Justin Hartwig, G, Pittsburgh SteelersSunday 3/16, 4:19 PM CT
Free agent offensive lineman Justin Hartwig is in the midst of a visit with the Kansas City Chiefs today, according to Yahoo Sports. Yahoo reports agent Drew Rosenhaus has confirmed the veteran blocker is in KC today and has several teams interested in making offers. Finding quality linemen at this time of year is difficult and the Panthers’ decision to release Hartwig gives these teams a shot to add an impact player. The Chiefs are certainly in need of such help, sporting one of the worst rushing attacks of the season in ’07 due to woes up and down their offensive line. Hartwig is not an optimal addition, but he would be a definitive upgrade.
Jacoby Jones, WR, Houston TexansSunday 3/16, 3:25 PM CT
Jacoby Jones is free on bail after being arrested early Sunday morning on suspision of drunk driving, according to the Houston Chronicle. "It was basically a DWI investigation," said Houston Police Department Sgt. John Chomiak. "There was no accident involved." Jones, who could face punishment from the NFL, will compete for action as the Texans No. 3 receiver in 2008.
Corey Smith, DE, Detroit LionsSunday 3/16, 12:48 PM CT
The Texans remain interested in signing Corey Smith to a contract, according to the Houston Chronicle. He's recovering from hernia surgery, but apparently several teams are eyeing him. The Texans, in particular, would like him to rush the edge on passing downs.
Darrell Jackson, WR, Denver BroncosSunday 3/16, 12:39 PM CT
As expected, the Niners released Darrell Jackson from their roster on Saturday. He became expendable after the club added Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson this offseason, especially since he averaged just 10.8 yards per catch in his lone season for the team in 2007.
D.J. Hackett, WR, Carolina PanthersSunday 3/16, 12:33 PM CT
D.J. Hackett met with the Panthers this weekend but not sign a contract, according to the Charlotte Observer. The Panthers, Bucs, Redskins and Seahawks remain in the mix, and Hackett could make a decision by early next week.
DeAngelo Hall, CB, Oakland RaidersSunday 3/16, 12:28 PM CT
DeAngelo Hall was in Oakland Friday, apparently trying to work out a contract with the Raiders, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. All parties are staying relatively quiet about things right now, but the Raiders reportedly are prepared to send second- and sixth-round draft picks for Hall if a contract can be worked out. The Raiders have never shied away from bad boys, so he'd be a natural fit.
Bubba Franks, TE, New York JetsSunday 3/16, 12:13 PM CT
The Jets have agreed to terms with Bubba Franks on a free-agent contract, according to the Detroit Free Press. He hasn't had much fantasy value in recent years, and that likely won't change as a backup to Chris Baker.
Willie McGinest, LB, Cleveland BrownsSunday 3/16, 10:58 AM CT
Willie McGinest has taken about a 47 percent pay cut for 2008 after agreeing to rework his contract with the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He could increase his pay significantly if he meets playing-time incentives.
Andra Davis, LB, Cleveland BrownsSunday 3/16, 10:55 AM CT
Andra Davis has had his contract significantly restructured by the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. His base salary for 2008 has been lowered from $3 million to about $1.7 million, and the final two years of the deal have been nixed. The emergence of Leon Williams and the use of new defensive packages has limited Davis' role in the Browns defense, so the new deal is not surprising.
Tab Perry, WR, Miami DolphinsSunday 3/16, 10:44 AM CT
Tab Perry has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dolphins that will pay him a little less than a million dollars, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He missed most of last season due to hip surgery but should give the Dolphins a quality returner.
Lee Evans, WR, Buffalo BillsSunday 3/16, 10:28 AM CT
Lee Evans can void his contract after the 2008 season, according to the Buffalo News. Needless to say, the Bills hope to lock him up to an extension before that happens, but Evans probably will need to see improvements on the field from the team in 2008 before he'll consider it. Expect him to be motivated to improve on last year's disappointing campaign and cash in as a free agent next offseason, unless the Bills are willing to shell out a monster deal before then.
