Wes Walz, C, Minnesota WildSaturday 12/1, 11:05 AM CT
Wes Walz is expected to announce his retirement Saturday morning, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. He played in more games (438) than any other Wild player, and his departure leaves Marian Gaborik as the only original Wild player on the team.
Mike Cammalleri, LW, Calgary FlamesSaturday 12/1, 11:01 AM CT
Mike Cammalleri could return to action on Saturday, according to the LA Times. He missed Wednesday's contest due to a groin injury, but it sounds like it's nothing serious.
Sergei Gonchar, D, Pittsburgh PenguinsSaturday 12/1, 10:48 AM CT
Sergei Gonchar missed Friday's game due to a setback with his bothersome groin muscle. "He was not feeling too good about his groin," Penguins coach Michel Therrien said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "He's day-to-day. We'll see for [tonight at Toronto], but I'd be really surprised." He sustained the injury last Saturday, so if it was still bad enough to keep him out Friday, he probably won't be on the ice tonight, either.
Sean Avery, LW, Dallas StarsSaturday 12/1, 9:27 AM CT
Sean Avery underwent successful surgery on his wrist Thursday. The procedure revealed no more damage than expected, according to the New York Daily News. He hopes to return to action within a few weeks.
Dmitri Kalinin, D, New York RangersSaturday 12/1, 9:22 AM CT
Dmitri Kalinin is aiming to skate with his teammates Saturday for the first time since going down with a sprained MCL. "He skated on his own [Friday] and did real well," coach Lindy Ruff said, according to the Buffalo News. "That’s been his first big step in the right direction. His off-ice stuff has been going good. He’s seems like he’s really coming along now." It probably will be another week or two before he gets his legs under him and back into game action.
Jay Pandolfo, LW, New Jersey DevilsSaturday 12/1, 9:16 AM CT
Jay Pandolfo saw his streak of consecutive games played end at 307 Friday night. The iron man was felled by a pelvic/abdominal injury, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. "Nothing is broken in my pelvis," he said. "That's obviously good." Um, that might be the understatement of the year. While he might try to give it a go Sunday, it sounds likely that he will take a little more time off to rest what sounds like a painful injury.
