Jordin Tootoo, RW, Nashville PredatorsFriday 2/1, 11:56 AM CT
Jordin Tootoo still is working his way back from a strained hip flexor, according to the Tennessean. "He's making a little better headway," coach Barry Trotz said. "I would say it will be a week to 10 days before he back on the ice." If you're in need of PIM, you'll have to hang on a little longer before you get any from Tootoo.
Ales Hemsky, RW, Edmonton OilersFriday 2/1, 11:50 AM CT
Ales Hemsky has been playing through a wrist injury for a couple of weeks, according to the Edmonton Journal. He said an MRI showed that it wasn't broken. Even though it remains purple and swollen, he plans to play again on Friday, so keep him in your lineups.
Sergei Fedorov, C, Washington CapitalsFriday 2/1, 11:46 AM CT
Sergei Fedorov might be able to resume skating on Friday, according to the Columbus Dispatch. Fedorov is working his way back from a concussion and will have to practice without a setback before we see him in game action again.
Fredrik Modin, LW, Columbus Blue JacketsFriday 2/1, 11:43 AM CT
A hamstring injury kept Fredrik Modin from taking part in Thursday's game, according to the Columbus Dispatch. He recently returned from an extended absence due to a back injury and believes that led to his sore hammy. He's day-to-day at this point.
Jere Lehtinen, RW, Dallas StarsFriday 2/1, 11:39 AM CT
Jere Lehtinen is slated to return to action on Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News. He's been out following hernia surgery, but it's time to get him back into your lineups. Lehtinen was hot before the injury, scoring six goals and tallying 19 points in 21 games.
Paul Stastny, C, Colorado AvalancheFriday 2/1, 11:36 AM CT
Paul Stastny was able to skate on Thursday, according to the Denver Post. That was his first action on the ice since having his appendix removed a couple of weeks ago. It's not clear when he'll be ready to play in a game, but this is a positive sign.
Kurt Sauer, D, Phoenix CoyotesFriday 2/1, 11:33 AM CT
Kurt Sauer finally was activated on Thursday. He had been out since the end of November due to a concussion and whiplash. He doesn't offer much in fantasy terms, though his plus-11 rating is good.
Martin Havlat, RW, Chicago BlackhawksFriday 2/1, 11:26 AM CT
Blackhawks GM Dave Tallon nixed a rumor that he was shopping Martin Havlat as trade bait, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I'm not shopping him at all," Tallon said. Of course, he probably would deny it even if he had shopped Havlat around. If he could find a quality offer out there, he may well pull the trigger and ditch his injury-prone forward.
Mathieu Schneider, D, Atlanta ThrashersFriday 2/1, 11:21 AM CT
Mathieu Schneider is listed as questionable for Friday's game, according to the LA Times. The veteran defenseman is battling an arm injury and may end up a game-time call.
Nik Antropov, C, Toronto Maple LeafsFriday 2/1, 11:18 AM CT
Nik Antropov received two game misconduct penalties during Thursday's game. The second of which was for abuse of an official, which carries an automatic three-game suspension. He's been having a nice season, with 18 goals and 41 points, but you can keep him out of your lineups for the Maple Leafs' next three contests.
Mats Sundin, C, Toronto Maple LeafsFriday 2/1, 11:04 AM CT
Mats Sundin met Thursday with Cliff Fletcher, who was hoping to persuade the veteran star to waive his no-trade clause so he can be dealt for prospects or draft picks, according to the Toronto Star. It sounds like Sundin hasn't changed his tune, though. "There's nothing really to talk about," he said. "My position hasn't changed. I want to stay here and that's about it." Sundin currently has a one-year deal, so even if he were dealt away, he could re-sign with the Leafs next season if he wished. The two sides agreed to not discuss it further in public, so all we'll get before the deadline are rumors, though it sounds like he's staying put.
Joffrey Lupul, RW, Philadelphia FlyersFriday 2/1, 10:54 AM CT
Joffrey Lupul returned to practice this week and hopes to be cleared for contact after being examined on Monday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He's been out since Jan. 4 with a spinal cord contussion and a concusion. Consider him to be week-to-week for now.
Peter Forsberg, C, Colorado AvalancheFriday 2/1, 10:49 AM CT
Peter Forsberg was quoted in yesterday's edition of the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet as saying he had declined an offer to play for Modo, his former Swedish club, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. That's a good sign for fantasy folk, as it means that if he decides to play this season, it should be in the NHL. Still, whether he will be able to play through his bum ankle remains to be seen. Forsberg's an unrestricted free agent, so he can sign with any team if he decides to return to the NHL.
Ray Emery, G, Ottawa SenatorsFriday 2/1, 10:39 AM CT
Ray Emery is slated to start Saturday's game for the Sens, according to the Ottawa Citizen. He's battling Martin Gerber for the No. 1 netminding job and will have a chance to make a statement with his performance on the road against the Maple Leafs. Gerber won two games before taking a loss on Thursday, so the fight remains wide open.
Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Ottawa SenatorsFriday 2/1, 10:27 AM CT
Daniel Alfredsson failed to complete Tuesday's game after aggravating his hip flexor injury. He's expected to miss at least the next two or three games, according to the Ottawa Citizen. "I'm going to take a few days to let it heal up and make sure I don't come back and aggravate it again," he said Thursday. He missed two games before the All-Star break due to the same injury, so clearly he and the Sens will not take any chances by pushing him to play too quickly. Alfredsson has an incredible 68 points in 48 games thus far, so he's earned a couple of games off anyway.
Ville Peltonen, LW, Florida PanthersFriday 2/1, 10:20 AM CT
On Thursday, Ville Peltonen took part in his first full practice since breaking his foot in the middle of December, according to the Miami Herald. He wore a no-contact jersey, though, and won't be ready to hit the ice for a game until at least sometime next week.
Olli Jokinen, C, Phoenix CoyotesFriday 2/1, 10:17 AM CT
Olli Jokinen was limited to just one period of play Wednesday and was unable to practice Thursday due to a stomach virus, according to the Miami Herald. "He's feeling a bit better this morning, but he's still fighting the bug," Panthers coach Jacques Martin said Thursday. "There's nothing you can do about it." Jokinen would have to be in really bad shape if he fails to play on Friday, as Wednesday's contest was the 346th consecutive game in which he's taken part.
Sergei Kostsitsyn, LW, Montreal CanadiensFriday 2/1, 10:11 AM CT
Sergei Kostsitsyn could be seeing more ice time, perhaps skating in place of the struggling Michael Ryder alongside Saku Koivu and Christopher Higgins, according to the Montreal Gazette. The rookie has five goals and 13 points in 21 games this season and has lit the lamp in each of his past two contests. He might be worth riding in deeper leagues if he does get more game action.
Matt Cullen, C, Carolina HurricanesFriday 2/1, 10:02 AM CT
Matt Cullen still is dealing with some post-concussion issues. He was unable to play Thursday due to problems with his vision, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. "He's been looked at and tested and cleared," coach Peter Laviolette said. "And when he can't focus in, we give him some time off. I don't think there's an exact science to it. You can't look at it like a ligament or a bone and say, 'OK, this is four weeks.'" Cullen's mustered an impressive 39 points in 44 games, though he had just two since returning five games prior to Thursday's tilt. Cullen may well miss another extended stretch, so stay tuned.
Marty Turco, G, Dallas StarsFriday 2/1, 9:57 AM CT
Marty Turco will start for the Stars Friday in Edmonton. He's been a little off his game this year (.906 save percentage, 2.42 goals-against average), which has opened the door for Mike Smith to play more than expected.
Rick DiPietro, G, New York IslandersFriday 2/1, 9:56 AM CT
Rick DiPietro, Ruslan Fedotenko and Andy Sutton all failed to be able to skate in Thursday's game due to the flu, according to the New York Daily News. The Islanders' next game comes Saturday, so we'll have to wait to see how well the trio recovers over the next 24 hours before we get a better idea of their status for that contest.
Jose Theodore, G, Washington CapitalsFriday 2/1, 9:55 AM CT
Jose Theodore (back) isn't on the road with the Avalanche, so Peter Budaj figures to start the next few games. Theodore left in the third period of Wednesday's game with back spasms.
Dave Legwand, C, Nashville PredatorsFriday 2/1, 9:52 AM CT
Dave Legwand (leg) was back in the lineup Thursday and played over 21 minutes. He's having a solid year for the Predators, with 11-25-36 numbers through 48 games.
Marek Malik, D, New York RangersFriday 2/1, 9:50 AM CT
Marek Malik missed most of the second half of Thursday's game after suffering a knee injury. It's not clear yet what his status is for the weekend.
Olli Jokinen, C, Phoenix CoyotesFriday 2/1, 9:49 AM CT
Olli Jokinen (flu) is questionable for Friday's game against the Canucks, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. The bug cost him the final two periods of Wednesday's game.
Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York RangersFriday 2/1, 9:47 AM CT
Henrik Lundqvist will return to action Friday against New Jersey. Stephen Valiquette got a spot start Thursday and surprisingly pitched a shutout over Philadelphia.
Drew Stafford, RW, Buffalo SabresFriday 2/1, 9:46 AM CT
Drew Stafford injured an ankle during Wednesday's game and did not practice on Thursday, according to the Buffalo News. He will not play tonight due to the injury and should be replaced at right wing by Maxim Afinogenov, who is returing from a groin injury.
Maxim Afinogenov, RW, Buffalo SabresFriday 2/1, 9:44 AM CT
Maxim Afinogenov skated with his Sabres teammates Thursday for the first time in two weeks, according to the Buffalo News. His slightly torn groin responded well enough that he might actually return to game action on Friday. The bigger question in fantasy terms is whether he can regain his his point-per-game form of the past couple of seasons after posting just 18 points in 38 games this season.
Bryan Berard, D, Philadelphia FlyersFriday 2/1, 9:41 AM CT
Bryan Berard scored a goal in Thursday's loss to Los Angeles. Make it four points in three games for Berard, who's getting more power-play time with Chris Campoli out of the mix.
Andy Sutton, D, New York IslandersFriday 2/1, 9:39 AM CT
Andy Sutton missed Thursday's game due to the flu, the AP reports. He's considered day-to-day.
Ruslan Fedotenko, LW, Pittsburgh PenguinsFriday 2/1, 9:38 AM CT
Ruslan Fedotenko missed his second straight game Thursday as he continues to deal with the flu, the AP reports.
Ilya Kovalchuk, LW, Atlanta ThrashersFriday 2/1, 9:38 AM CT
Ilya Kovalchuk will miss at least two games due to the knee injury he sustained during Wednesday's contest, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He went for a precautionary MRI Thursday, though the results haven't been made public. Kovy had no swelling in the joint, and coach Don Waddell said he expected the MRI to be negative. For now, it appears the superstar escaped with minimal damage and could miss just a couple of games.
Cristobal Huet, G, Chicago BlackhawksFriday 2/1, 9:36 AM CT
Cristobal Huet allowed five goals on 38 shots in Thursday's overtime loss to the Capitals. It was nonetheless a good month for Huet, as he went 8-2-1 and clearly assumed the No. 1 spot in the Montreal goal.
Brian Gionta, RW, New Jersey DevilsFriday 2/1, 9:33 AM CT
Brian Gionta is expected to take part in Friday's tilt with the Rangers, according to the Star-Ledger. He sustained a lower-body injury during Tuesday's game, though he was able to complete the contest. He may risk aggravating the ailment tonight, but he wants to battle with the Rangers.
Antero Niittymaki, G, Philadelphia FlyersFriday 2/1, 9:31 AM CT
Antero Niittymaki was pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots in Thursday's loss to the Rangers. The Flyers plan to use Martin Biron Saturday against Anaheim.
Jamie Langenbrunner, RW, New Jersey DevilsFriday 2/1, 9:29 AM CT
Jamie Langenbrunner is slated to return to action on Friday, according to the Star-Ledger. He missed Tuesday's game due to the flu, but it appears you can safely put him back in your lineups tonight.
Adam Foote, D, Colorado AvalancheFriday 2/1, 9:28 AM CT
Adam Foote was back in the lineup Thursday after missing Tuesday's game with the flu, the AP reports. Foote played just under 21 minutes and had six shots on goal, though he was also minus-2.
Jay Pandolfo, LW, New Jersey DevilsFriday 2/1, 9:26 AM CT
Jay Pandolfo is getting closer to playing, but his return to the ice isn't expected this weekend, according to the Star-Ledger. "I'm not going to play. This is the important part of the season. I want to make sure I'm 100 percent when I come back," Pandolfo said. "Would I love to play tomorrow night? Yeah. But I don't want to play a game thinking about my injury. When you do that, you're a liability to the team." He's working his way back from a pubic bone ligament injury, so pardon him if he takes his time getting back in game action.
Glen Murray, RW, Boston BruinsFriday 2/1, 9:18 AM CT
Glen Murray still is working his way back into game shape, but it may be a while longer before he plays, according to the Boston Herald. When asked whether he's confident he'll be able to return from his strained hip flexor inside of two weeks, he said, "I hope so," said Murray. "I hope it’s within the next couple of days. I wish it was three weeks ago. It’s been long enough. Has it been long? It’s been long, oh yeah. Patience is running out, but I want to be sure it’s right. I don’t want to be set back another couple of weeks. I’ve got no answers. I’m just going out there and doing my thing for a half-hour. Could I jump into a game now? No chance." It doesn't appear that he will be back in the mix right away. Consider him week-to-week for now.
Andrew Alberts, D, Boston BruinsFriday 2/1, 9:10 AM CT
Andrew Alberts was able to take part in some off-ice exercising Wednesday for the first time in several weeks, according to the Boston Globe. The last time he tried, in early January, his concussion symptoms kept him from continuing. He's now missed 19 games due to the condition and won't hit the ice for game action until he gets in plenty of practice to prove he's fully recovered.
Marco Sturm, LW, Boston BruinsFriday 2/1, 9:06 AM CT
Marco Sturm was forced to sit out of Thursday's game due to the flu, according to the Boston Globe. The bug has been working its way through the B's locker room and it was his turn to take it on. With any luck he'll be ready to face the Red Wings on Saturday.
P.J. Axelsson, LW, Boston BruinsFriday 2/1, 9:03 AM CT
P.J. Axelsson traveled with the B's to Ottawa only intending to take part in their Thursday morning skate, according to the Boston Globe. However, his injured right foot felt well enough for him to return to game action in the evening. He played with a plastic guard in his boot to protect the injury and was held scoreless, but it was nice to have him back in the mix earlier than expected.
Niklas Kronwall, D, Detroit Red WingsFriday 2/1, 1:00 AM CT
Niklas Kronwall has a shoulder injury and is expected to miss about 10 days. He suffered the injury in Wednesday's victory over Phoenix.
