Ray Emery, G, Ottawa SenatorsSunday 2/3, 3:30 PM CT
Ray Emery got into a shouting match with teammate Chris Neil during practice Sunday after Neil poked at a puck that Emery had covered up, according to TSN.ca. Coach John Paddock said Neil's move was unnecessary, but it's not surprising that Emery is chippy. He's in a straight-up battle with Martin Gerber for the No. 1 goaltending job and gave up four goals on 26 shots and took a loss last night in his first shot to claim the job. No word yet on which goalie will get the nod for Tuesday's game.
Christian Backman, D, New York RangersSunday 2/3, 1:07 PM CT
Christian Backman will miss at least the next week or two due to a cracked bone in his left foot, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It’s non-displaced, so that’s a good thing," Blues president John Davidson said. "The swelling has already gone down a bit." Having scored just one goal and 10 points this season, he won't be missed by many fantasy teams.
Shawn Horcoff, C, Edmonton OilersSunday 2/3, 12:54 PM CT
Shawn Horcoff hasn't played since Tuesday due to a shoulder injury. He had managed to battle through the ailment for the entire season but aggravated it during the All-Star game, according to the Edmonton Journal. He hopes to get back in the lineup for Monday's tilt, but this has to be a bit concerning, considering his point-per-game pace this season. Watch things closely over the next week to see how his shoulder responds.
Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago BlackhawksSunday 2/3, 12:38 PM CT
Jonathan Toews skated for the second straight day Saturday, as he works his way back from a sprained knee, according to the Chicago Tribune. He's hoping to return to action on Feb. 13, but he'll have to get in some practice before that comes to fruition. The rookie sensation had 15 goals and 32 points in his first 36 games before being felled by the injury.
Scott Thornton, W, Los Angeles KingsSunday 2/3, 12:30 PM CT
Scott Thornton was held out of Saturday's game after he had trouble during the morning skate with a neck injury, according to the LA Times. He's expected to return for the Kings' next game.
Rob Blake, D, Los Angeles KingsSunday 2/3, 12:25 PM CT
Rob Blake had been playing through a sore ankle since being hit by a slap shot on Jan. 15, according to the LA Times. However, an MRI taken Friday revealed that he actually has a fracture in the joint. As a result, Blake is expected to miss at least the next two weeks. The veteran has 25 points and 80 PIM in 53 games this season, but his minus-13 rating is a dead weight for fantasy teams.
Dion Phaneuf, D, Calgary FlamesSunday 2/3, 12:20 PM CT
Dion Phaneuf and the Flames will continue to discuss a contract extension on Monday, according to the Calgary Herald. "We're working on it now and we're having discussions and they're ongoing," said Don Meehan, Phaneuf's agent, from Sweden on Saturday. "We're continuing to work at it." Details about what the contract might end up being are limited, as rumors run the gamut from three to six years. But it's clear the Flames want to lock up their young defenseman, who has 33 points in 52 games this season, for the foreseeable future.
Joffrey Lupul, W, Philadelphia FlyersSunday 2/3, 12:02 PM CT
Joffrey Lupul passed his baseline concussion test on Saturday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. That's the first step towards returning to game action. The second will be getting medical clearance to return from his bruised spinal cord, which he hopes receive on Monday. If that happens, he'll be cleared for full-contact practices and won't be far off from skating in games.
Radek Dvorak, W, Florida PanthersSunday 2/3, 11:55 AM CT
Radek Dvorak was forced to exit Saturday's contest after taking a shot off of his left hand, according to the Miami Herald. He had a soft cast on his hand after the contest and is slated to undergo X-rays Sunday, though he didn't think it was broken. This should have minimal fantasy impact, since Dvorak has just 12 points in 54 games this season.
Jozef Stumpel, C, Florida PanthersSunday 2/3, 11:51 AM CT
Jozef Stumpel injured his right shoulder again during Friday's game, according to the Miami Herald. It was just his second game back after missing seven contests due to the initial injury. The Panthers didn't have any information on the severity of this injury, but it's likely that he'll miss some more action.
Jaroslav Spacek, D, Buffalo SabresSunday 2/3, 11:34 AM CT
Jaroslav Spacek didn't practice Saturday due to the upper-body injury he sustained during Friday's contest, according to the Buffalo News. Coach Lindy Ruff said that Spacek was "on the cusp of questionable" for Tuesday’s game. Hopefully, the Sabres will have a better update on his condition as the game nears.
Ilya Kovalchuk, W, Atlanta ThrashersSunday 2/3, 11:29 AM CT
Ilya Kovalchuk stayed home and rested his sore knee, but he'll test it out with another workout on Sunday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. How the joint responds to the workout over the next 24-48 hours will determine whether he'll be able to return to action for Tuesday's game. Whether he can lace up his skates for that one or not, it sounds like Kovy avoided any long-term damage to his knee.
Jay Pandolfo, W, New Jersey DevilsSunday 2/3, 11:18 AM CT
Although Jay Pandolfo didn't skate during an optional session Saturday, it wasn't because he suffered a setback in his recovery from a pubic bone ligament injury, according to the Star-Ledger. He sat out just so he could rest up mentally and physically. It's possible that he could return to the ice for Monday's skate against the Pens.
Manny Fernandez, G, Boston BruinsSunday 2/3, 11:13 AM CT
Manny Fernandez remains on schedule in his recovery from knee surgery, according to the Boston Herald. The goal is for him to be up on skates by the end of the season, but he won't be fully recovered until next season's training camp.
Glen Murray, W, Boston BruinsSunday 2/3, 11:10 AM CT
Glen Murray is getting closer to returning to game action, according to the Boston Herald. "As long as there aren’t any setbacks, he’s getting closer and closer every day," coach Claude Julien said. He's working his way back from a hip flexor injury, but indications are that he could hit the ice within the next week or so.
