Petr Sykora, W, Pittsburgh PenguinsSunday 2/10, 11:44 PM CT
Petr Sykora scored a goal and added an assist and in Sunday's win against the Flyers. He extended his points streak to with a total of three goals and four assists over the team's last five games. The absence of Sidney Crosby seems to have inspired Sykora. He has been a solid waiver wire find for fantasy owners.
R.J. Umberger, C, Columbus Blue JacketsSunday 2/10, 11:40 PM CT
R.J. Umberger scored twice Sunday against Pittsburgh and has the Penguins number this year. Six of Umberger's 11 goals this season are against the Penguins. Umberger had recorded five assists in five games against Pittsburgh this season. His career numbers against the Pens shows a stat-line of eight goals and 10 assists in 20 games. The centers fantasy value still rests in deep formats.
Richard Zednik, W, Florida PanthersSunday 2/10, 11:33 PM CT
Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik had emergency surgery after taking a skate to his neck in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena, according to TSN.ca. ''The surgery was successful and he's resting comfortably in the hospital,'' Panthers spokesman Brian Goldman said. With the Sabres leading 4-3 midway through the third period, linemate Olli Jokinen - who was being checked in the Sabres' zone - fell forward and his skate accidently flew up and caught the right side of Zednik's neck. Zednik bled profusely from the cut but was able to skate toward his bench where he was met by the trainer and immediately ushered to the locker room. The Panthers have made arrangements for his wife to fly to Buffalo to be with him as the team departed for home to prepare for their next game against Montreal.
Daniel Briere, C, Philadelphia FlyersSunday 2/10, 11:27 PM CT
The Flyers' Daniel Briere continues to struggle. In Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Pens the boxscore offers evidence that the center didn't score a goal for the eighth consecutive game.
Evgeni Malkin, W, Pittsburgh PenguinsSunday 2/10, 11:24 PM CT
Evgeni Malkin netted a goal and set up three others, giving him seven points in the last two days. The Pittsburgh Penguins beat intrastate rival Philadelphia 4-3 Sunday. Malkin has had some incentive the last two games as his parents arrived from Russia this weekend to watch him play for the first time this season.
Simon Gagne, W, Philadelphia FlyersSunday 2/10, 9:33 PM CT
Simon Gagne , who left Sunday's 4-3 loss versus the Pittsburgh Penguins, was diagnosed with a mild concussion, according to TSN.ca. The 27-year-old Gagne, who didn't play the final two periods, missed 26 games with dizziness after taking a hit from Florida's Jay Bouwmeester in the Flyers' 4-3 setback to the Panthers on October 24.
Richard Zednik, W, Florida PanthersSunday 2/10, 9:29 PM CT
Richard Zednik was in stable condition at a Buffalo hospital while having surgery to close a deep gash on the right side of his neck, according to ESPN. Zednik was sliced by a teammate's skate during a game against the Sabres on Sunday.
Marc-Andre Fleury, G, Pittsburgh PenguinsSunday 2/10, 3:59 PM CT
Marc-Andre Fleury was assigned to the AHL on Sunday in order to see some game action in his attempt to come back from his injured ankle that has sidelined him for 28 games. No timetable has been set yet for his return, but the real question will be if he regains his starting spot given the play of Ty Conklin who has stepped up big time to go 14-3-3 with a 2.22 GAA while Fleury has been out. AP
R.J. Umberger, C, Columbus Blue JacketsSunday 2/10, 3:19 PM CT
R.J. Umberger scored two goals on Sunday giving him seven of his 11 goals this year against his hometown Penguins. Umberger is nothing more than a depth play in deep leagues, but he is has already tied his career-high of 38 points in a season while posting a +8, quite a turnaround from last year's (-32) rating.
Evgeni Malkin, W, Pittsburgh PenguinsSunday 2/10, 3:16 PM CT
Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the Flyers on Sunday. Malkin has now scored at least two points in 5-straight games and he has 15 overall points during that stretch. Malkin continues to prove that he doesn't need to ride shotgun to Sidney Crosby to become a major start. The Pens are blessed with an embarrassment of riches with a young lineup that will offer tons of fantasy enjoyment for years to come.
Mike Green, D, Washington CapitalsSunday 2/10, 3:13 PM CT
Mike Green scored the game-wining goal in OT, his 15 tally of the season, for the Capitals against the Rangers on Sunday. Ever so quietly Green is now up to 15 goals on the year and when you add in his 50 PIM, you have one of the biggest hitters in the league from the blueline, not bad from a waiver-wire pickup.
Alexander Ovechkin, W, Washington CapitalsSunday 2/10, 3:10 PM CT
Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal and added two assists against the Rangers on Sunday. In his quest to thoroughly dominate every opponent the Caps face, Ovechkin has tallied an amazing 47 goals in 57 games this season including 17 in his last 16 games. The dude is simply amazing.
Stephen Valiquette, G, New York RangersSunday 2/10, 3:08 PM CT
Stephen Valiquette started his second straight game on Sunday allowing three goals in 24 shots as the Rangers fell 3-2 in OT to the Capitals. Henrik Lundqvist owners don't panic. The team made the decision to go with Valiquette on Sunday because of his great play last time out (SO), but this team still lives and dies with Lundqvist, so look for him to be in net for the team's next game.
Jaromir Jagr, W, New York RangersSunday 2/10, 3:04 PM CT
Jaromir Jagr returning to one of his former homes, Jaromir Jagr was held pointless by the Caps on Sunday, the seventh straight games he has failed to record a point. This is starting to get ridiculous. Unless Jagr is covering up a significant injury it appears he has gotten old overnight. He still has 47 points in 59 games though that is barely a passable total for a guy who scored 219 points the past two seasons.
Ryan O'Byrne, D, Montreal CanadiensSunday 2/10, 2:07 PM CT
Ryan O'Bryne was recalled from the AHL to join the Canadiens on Sunday. O'Bryne missed 16 games because of a broken hand suffered in a fight on December 28th. The 6'5", 225 lbs O'Bryne will add some toughness to the Montreal lineup from the blueline though he only has 18 PIM in 11 games this season meaning he certainly isn't someone to add at the moment if you are looking for the rough stuff. AP
Ray Emery, G, Ottawa SenatorsSunday 2/10, 1:59 PM CT
Ray Emery claims that he is being targeted by police, just the latest in a long line of odd events that have surrounded him this season. Emery says he was pulled over for no reason while the officer claimed Emery cut him off on the road. Emery went on to state that he gets pulled over three or four times a week. No matter how goo he performs is there really any way they want to keep him in Ottawa? Problem is he can't seem to keep his nose clean for three weeks so that they can move him in a trade, a possibility that is still looming. Emery has been a disappointment this season for the Sens and he just can't seem to unseat Martin Gerber for the starting spot in Ottawa. TSN
Pascal Leclaire, G, Columbus Blue JacketsSunday 2/10, 1:24 PM CT
Pascal Leclaire has a sprained neck that has kept him out of action, but after facing shots at practice on Saturday he feels that he is ready to return to the lineup on Sunday. HC Ken Hitchcock is being a bit more cautious. "We'll see how Pascal is at the morning skate," Hitchcock said. "I want to see how he feels, how he plays the puck. And I want to talk it over with the rest of the coaches." Leclaire has been borderline spectacular this season with a 2.10 GAA, .925 SV% and a league leading eight shutouts. As soon as he returns to the lineup, obviously insert him back into your lineup. The Columbus Dispatch
Braydon Coburn, D, Philadelphia FlyersSunday 2/10, 9:42 AM CT
Braydon Coburn will be sidelined for a couple of weeks after injuring his buttocks on Saturday night. Coburn has already undergone surgery on the muscle and will be replaced in the lineup by Lasse Kukkonen. Coburn had been a solid depth play this season with 24 points, a +11 and 50 PIM, so his loss will be felt on the Flyers blueline. Kukkonen has been a healthy scratch the past 14 games, so don't look for the same numbers to come from Coburn's replacement. Philadelphia Daily News
Peter Forsberg, C, Colorado AvalancheSunday 2/10, 9:37 AM CT
Peter Forsberg is still undecided about his return to the NHL, but it appears that any decision on the matter is still about a week away. The Flyers appear to be in the lead for his services according to this report, but Forsberg wants to make sure that his injured foot can withstand the pounding of an NHL game. Ottawa Sun
Sheldon Souray, D, Edmonton OilersSunday 2/10, 9:29 AM CT
Sheldon Souray received some good news from the doctors who performed his shoulder surgery this week; he did not have torn labrum but a less severe torn biceps muscle. "There's no torn labrum, but he does have a torn bicep muscle," said Oilers trainer Ken Lowe. Obviously this is great news moving forward but it will little to erase the bad taste in the Oilers mouth as they got just 10 points and 26 games out of their big off-season signing. If healthy, target Souray in next year's draft as he will certainly be undervalued. Edmonton Journal
Marian Hossa, W, Detroit Red WingsSunday 2/10, 9:15 AM CT
The Marian Hossa trade rumors are heating up as he still hasn't signed an extension with the Thrashers, but at least one rumor doesn't appear to be true. "We [Waddell and Montreal GM Bob Gainey] both happened to walk in back for a cup of coffee at the same time and Marian Hossa’s name never came up in the discussion," GM Don Waddell said. "We were talking about his team looking so good… That was the extent of it.” Hossa has had an uneven season but he still has 24 goals and 49 points and has shown himself to be one of the most consistently excellent all-around players in the game. The Thrashers will likely trade him before the deadline if they can't get a deal worked out for fear of losing him for nothing. Still, the team has said all along that it wants to keep him around so look for them to make every effort to re-sign the winger. Atlanta Journal Constitution
Drew Stafford, W, Buffalo SabresSunday 2/10, 9:10 AM CT
Drew Stafford and his injured ankle will likely end up in the press box for a couple of weeks. “He’s got an ankle sprain again, and those are tough to tell exactly how long,” HC Lindy Ruff said. “We’re hoping it’s not real bad, but he’s going to miss some time. I’m not going to put any timetable on it, but time is now probably, I’m thinking weeks.” They are dropping like flies in Buffalo though the team has climbed to ninth in the East with a 6-2-2 record in their last 10. Buffalo News
Maxim Afinogenov, W, Buffalo SabresSunday 2/10, 9:07 AM CT
Maxim Afinogenov, who has missed 16-games with a partial tear in his groin, has apparently suffered a setback after all in his attempt to return to the ice. “Originally I declared it not a setback,” HC Lindy Ruff said. “Now it’s looking more like a setback. He still has some pain. His strength is pretty good, but the pain is still there. Groins are tough. He’s got a small groin tear that’s taking longer than we anticipated.” Afinogenov, like many of the Sabres, has failed to produce offensively with just 18 points in 38 games. With Drew Stafford also dealing with an injured ankle that could keep him out of action for a couple of weeks, the Sabres will need to turn to others to help score off the wing, perhaps in the form of Ales Kotalik and Daniel Paille. Buffalo News
Ryan Smyth, W, Colorado AvalancheSunday 2/10, 9:00 AM CT
Ryan Smyth hopes to participate in practice on Monday in his attempt to return from a broken right ankle. Smyth has been progressing quite well in his rehab and figures to be a good bet to return prior to the team's original assessment of a return on March 1st. In 26 games this year, Smyth has 11 goals and 28 points from the port-side. Denver Post
Paul Stastny, C, Colorado AvalancheSunday 2/10, 8:56 AM CT
Paul Stastny (appendectomy) had hoped to return from on Saturday night to the Av's lineup but he was held out of the game because he is still feeling some minor discomfort when he skates. He hopes to return on Tuesday against the Ducks. The Av's have been playing good hockey of late despite being without their top-3 scorers in Statstny, Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth. Look for Stastny to pick back up where he left off with his point-per-game scoring pace (49 in 46 games). Denver Post
Dan Cleary, W, Detroit Red WingsSunday 2/10, 8:39 AM CT
Dan Cleary was hit in the face by a puck on Saturday and he will require surgery on his jaw that is estimated to keep him out of action for 6-8 weeks. Cleary has been playing the best hockey of his career this season with 20g-20a-40points and a +23. The Wings certainly have enough talent to overcome this loss, but it's time to reserve him immediately and go trolling on the waiver-wire or trade market for a replacement. ESPN
Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago BlackhawksSunday 2/10, 8:34 AM CT
Jonathan Toews time on the sidelines appears to be over as the Hawks scoring start figures to return to the ice on Sunday for the first time since injuring his knee 16 games ago. Toews is still second in rookie scoring with 15 goals and he has 32 points in 36 games for the Blackhawks who have sorely missed his offensive game, especially linemate Patrick Sharp who before scoring three goals in the last three games had only beaten the goaltender once in 11 games. Patrick Marleau, C, San Jose SharksSunday 2/10, 12:44 AM CT
Patrick Marleau injured his groin in the first period of the Sharks game on Saturday night and he did not return in the victory. No word yet on the severity of injury, but rest assured we will be on top of it to find out the prognosis of the Sharks captain. NHL.com
