Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey DevilsWednesday 2/13, 11:58 PM CT
Martin Brodeur won his 30th game on Wednesday night, his NHL record 12th straight season of reaching that mark. Since a 3-6 October, Brodeur has been his old self with a 27-13-3 record as one of the top-3 goalies in the NHL for like the millionth straight season. Look for Martin to play virtually every game the rest of the season and to shoot for his third straight 40-win season.
Nicklas Backstrom, C, Washington CapitalsWednesday 2/13, 11:54 PM CT
Nicklas Backstrom added two more assists to his growing total on Wednesday night to up his season total to 38 during his rookie campaign. Backstrom might only have nine goals on the year, but he has 17 assists in his last 19 games as his play has picked up immensely after a slow start to the year. If your looking to get him on the cheap, that time has probably long since passed.
Ilya Kovalchuk, LW, Atlanta ThrashersWednesday 2/13, 11:51 PM CT
Ilya Kovalchuk, hot for almost all of the season, has hit his first protracted slump of the year with only two tallies in his last nine games. Ilya is still second in the league with 39 goals though his play has appeared to have suffered a bit since he injured his knee. Still, he is one pace to easily eclipse 50-goals, so don't go bailing on him just because he has hit a rough patch.
Kari Lehtonen, G, Atlanta ThrashersWednesday 2/13, 11:46 PM CT
Kari Lehtonen stopped 39 of 41 shots in the game and then held off the Caps in the shutout to lead the Thrashers to a 3-2 OT victory. For good measure, Kari also added an assist. Over the last six games the Finnish keeper has allowed only nine goals as his play has improved immeasurably of late. If you need a push in the goaltending categories target Kari in a trade since his owner may not realize what he has given the fact he owns just a 13-14-2 record.
Aaron Ward, D, Boston BruinsWednesday 2/13, 8:04 PM CT
Just a month after returning to action from a broken foot, Aaron Ward was forced to leave the Bruins game because of a throat injury on Wednesday night according to the Sports Ticker. Ward was alert but he was taken to the local hospital for further observation. No further details are available.
Mathieu Roy, D, Edmonton OilersWednesday 2/13, 6:49 PM CT
Mathieu Roy was recalled by the Oilers on Wednesday according to the AP. The 24-year-old Roy, a former 7th round draft pick, has seen limited time in the NHL and has produced little in the way of offense with just two goals and a (-9) in 35 career games, so don't go waiver-wire hunting here if you are looking for help on the blueline.
Stephen Weiss, C, Florida PanthersWednesday 2/13, 6:42 PM CT
Stephen Weiss will miss the Panthers game on Wednesday night due to the flu according to a report on the AP. With Richard Zednik already out of action, the team was forced to call up Stephan Meyer from Rochester to fill in for Weiss who may also be out of the Panthers Friday night game as well. With all the lineup issues, the team will need Olli Jokinen and Nathan Horton to step up their offensive games even further.
Alexander Ovechkin, LW, Washington CapitalsWednesday 2/13, 4:39 PM CT
Alexander Ovechkin is on pace to push 70-goals this season, and if he scores three goals over the next four games he will produce just the sixth season of 50 goals before March 1st since 1993. NHL.com. AO is simply put, the best player on skates right now. Since signing his 13-year contract, Ovechkin has 15 goals in 14 games. Looks like the money really went to his head.
Teemu Selanne, RW, Anaheim DucksWednesday 2/13, 4:32 PM CT
Teemu Selanne scored his first goal on Tuesday night as the Ducks won their fifth straight game with a 2-1 victory over the Avalanche. "I'm not 100 percent," said Selanne. "There's still a price to pay, but it's getting better. It's like training camp." Selanne should be counted on to provide roughly a point-per-game the rest of the way, so for those of you who were able to grab him off waivers, consider yourself quite lucky.
Marian Hossa, RW, Detroit Red WingsWednesday 2/13, 4:23 PM CT
Marian Hossa is still squarely in the Thrashers long-term plans but the looming trade deadline means that he could be nearing an end to his tenure in Atlanta if a contract extension cannot be worked out prior to next week's trade deadline according to the AP. "Our No. 1 goal is to try to sign this player," GM Don Waddell said. "We're utilizing our players as much as we can to try to make sure we stay in contention." Hossa is a marvelous player who could swing the balance of power for whatever team were to gain his services. Even in a "down" year, Hossa still has 24 goals and 49 points in 55 games.
Fredrik Modin, LW, Columbus Blue JacketsWednesday 2/13, 3:50 PM CT
The Blue Jackets activated Fredrik Modin from the IR Wednesday. Modin has been out since January 31 with a hamstring injury.
Jason Williams, RW, Atlanta ThrashersWednesday 2/13, 12:20 PM CT

Shane Doan, RW, Phoenix CoyotesWednesday 2/13, 12:16 PM CT

Martin Hanzal is at least a week away from return from his shoulder injury, according to the Arizona Republic. He's missed the last four games because of the ailment.
Tomas Fleischmann, RW, Washington CapitalsWednesday 2/13, 11:56 AM CT
The Capitals re-signed Tomas Fleischmann to a two-year deal Wednesday for $1.45 million dollars according to NHL.com. Tomas has recorded six goals and 15 assists in 53 games this year and is more of a depth player than anything else as he is far from being worthy of inclusion on anyone's fantasy roster.
Brad Lukowich, D, San Jose SharksWednesday 2/13, 11:49 AM CT
Brad Lukowich missed Tuesday's game with abdominal/groin injury, according to the Tampa Tribune. The defenseman left Saturday's game in the second period with the ailment and missed Monday's practice. It's not clear how much time he'll miss.
Andre Roy, RW, Calgary FlamesWednesday 2/13, 11:46 AM CT
Andre Roy returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing three games following a heated exchange on the bench with coach John Tortorella. "I want to just play the same way I was playing before, but just make sure I keep my emotions in check," Roy told the Tampa Tribune. Unfortunately for Roy, he didn't take long to get back in the doghouse, taking an offensive zone interference penalty on his second shift of the game that led to Montreal's second goal. He didn't play again.
Tim Taylor, C, Tampa Bay LightningWednesday 2/13, 11:42 AM CT
Tim Taylor skated for about 30 minutes Tuesday before Tampa's morning skate, the first time he's taken the ice since last year's playoffs. The center said he has not eliminated the possibility of returning this season from hip surgery. "I'm not going to rule anything out, yes or no, at this point," Taylor said in the Tampa Tribune. "I knew that I had to start pushing myself if I want to give myself a chance to return. I feel good right now. I'll do this for a few more days. Next week I'll work with strength coach Eric Lawson doing some stuff on ice for strength, and I'll go from there."
Mike Van Ryn, D, Toronto Maple LeafsWednesday 2/13, 11:34 AM CT
Mike Van Ryn will have his surgically repaired right wrist evaluated by his surgeon next week and hopes to be back on the ice in the coming month. "I feel good," Van Ryn said in the Miami Herald. "I'm ready to get going and start playing. I feel a lot like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day."
Rostislav Olesz, LW, Florida PanthersWednesday 2/13, 11:24 AM CT
Rostislav Olesz participated in a full practice Tuesday, the first time he's been able to do so since reinjuring his hand last month. Olesz is expected to be back in the lineup Friday. "It's been four weeks, and the past couple I've just been skating and skating," he said in the Miami Herald. "We have a lot of guys injured, and that's not good since we're battling for the playoffs. I want to help the guys. I'll be ready. I feel good."
Richard Zednik, LW, Florida PanthersWednesday 2/13, 11:22 AM CT
Richard Zednik was upgraded from fair to good condition Tuesday and moved from the intensive-care unit to a private patient room at Buffalo General Hospital, according to the Miami Herald. "It's comforting for the players to know that Richard is well taken care of by the medical team in Buffalo," coach Jacques Martin said in the Miami Herald. "It looks like he will be able to fully recover within time... The plans are that he will be back to South Florida by the weekend, and we should know a little more at that point in time of what will be the recovery time before he can start with competition again." Zednik, who suffered a near-fatal laceration that almost severed his carotid artery, is done for the year but is expected to resume his playing career in time.
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh PenguinsWednesday 2/13, 11:18 AM CT
Sidney Crosby continues to practice in a no-contact yellow jersey. He said his right ankle, which has caused him to miss the last 10 games, is improving, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He'll probably be back sometime in early March.
Simon Gagne, LW, Philadelphia FlyersWednesday 2/13, 11:13 AM CT
Flyers coach John Stevens said Simon Gagne felt better but would remain out of action for four more days, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Gagne is recovering from his third concussion of the year, which he suffered on Sunday.
Peter Forsberg, C, Colorado AvalancheWednesday 2/13, 11:09 AM CT
Peter Forsberg is ready to announce a decision on whether he will return to the NHL, though it's not clear when exactly he'll make a statement. The Flyers over the weekend weren't optimistic that the center would return to the NHL this year, but if he does, Philadelphia appears to be the first choice, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Tim Connolly, C, Buffalo SabresWednesday 2/13, 10:48 AM CT
Tim Connolly may not play tonight when the Sabres host the Maple Leafs. The center recently returned from a bone spur and torn labrum in his hip and will have difficulty playing on back-to-back nights. "We don't know yet," coach Lindy Ruff said in the Buffalo News. "It'll be a game-time decision."
