After being anointed as the No. 1 goaltender in Montreal, the 20- year-old was in complete control Friday night during the Habs’ 6-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. The prize for the victory? Montreal moved into first place in the Northeast Division. In what the Buffalo News says is easily one of the most bizarre decisions at the NHL trade deadline, Montreal General Manager Bob Gainey traded top netminder Cristobal Huet to Washington and gave the starting goaltender job to Price. The paper compares the trade to Ken Dryden in 1971 and Patrick Roy in 1986.

According to the Boston Globe, the deeper into spring the Bruins play, the better the chance Bergeron has of dressing this year. The Boston center played in 10 games this season scoring seven points, three of those goals, before suffering a severe concussion and broken nose. "It's just great to be back on the ice," said Bergeron. "I was missing the game. It's been four long months.

Manny Fernandez is feeling the push and pull of careful rehabilitation, this according to the Boston Globe. "I'm pretty anxious to get out there," he said. "Tomorrow I've got to get them to let me go on with some equipment. Maybe in a week or two weeks, I can start seeing shots." Fernandez recovery can't come fast enough. "I'm on a need-to-know basis," Fernandez said. "Every day I come in and they tell me what's going on with workouts. I try to push, but when it comes down to it, I think they know best." Fernandez, the goalie acquired last summer to be the 'man' in goal, underwent knee surgery in December and has no definitive timetable for a return to active duty.

Alexander Ovechkin extended his scoreless streak Friday night to seven games. This is the longest goalless streak of Ovechkin's three-year career, this according to the Washington Post. "I'm not concerned, but I think he is," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "He's pressing a little bit. You can tell. He's fanning on a couple of shots. It will come. You can't stop a guy like that forever." Ovechkin is stuck on 83 points for the season, 48 of those goals.
