Brad Boyes, RW, St. Louis BluesMonday 3/10, 11:51 PM CT
Brad Boyes scored two goals on Monday night to give him a total of four markers in his last two contests. Boyes is up to 36 goals on the year, and his recent hot spell is a welcomed happening considering that before this two game stretch he had gone eight games without a goal.
Alex Tanguay, LW, Montreal CanadiensMonday 3/10, 11:50 PM CT
Alex Tanguay had two goals and an assist on Monday night for the Flames. Tanguay averaged 79 points over the past three seasons which makes his current total of 52 points a big time disappointment. With 16 goals on the year, he needs four more for his fifth straight 20-goal season from the left wing.
Dion Phaneuf, D, Calgary FlamesMonday 3/10, 11:45 PM CT
Dion Phaneuf had three assists on Monday night to give him a new career-high of 35. Phaneuf is also one point off his career best mark of 50 points. Throw in his power-play production (28 PP points) and PIM (163) total, and you have one of the best all-around performers in the fantasy game.
Jarome Iginla, RW, Calgary FlamesMonday 3/10, 11:43 PM CT
Jarome Iginla scored the 365 goal of his career, a Flames record, in the team's 7-3 killing of the Blues. Iginla also had two helpers on the night to give him nine goals and 10 assists in his last 19 games when he has posted a +10 rating for Calgary.
Thomas Vanek, LW, Buffalo SabresMonday 3/10, 11:01 PM CT
Thomas Vanek scored his 28th goal of the season in a losing effort on Monday night. After last seasons amazing numbers which included 43 goals, 84 points and a +47, this years numbers are a big-time letdown (28g, 53 pts. and a -3). However, Vanek has been white-hot since the all-star break with 15 goals and 22 points in 22 games.
Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York RangersMonday 3/10, 10:59 PM CT
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 19 of 21 shots in the game on Monday night and then held off the Sabres long enough for the Rangers to win in the shutout. Since the all-star break Lundqvist is 10-3-2 for the surging Rangers.
Jaromir Jagr, RW, Monday 3/10, 10:55 PM CT
Jaromir Jagr scored a goal on Monday night, just his 18th of the season for the Rangers. Barring a miracle, Jagr will lose his streak of 15-straight 30-goal seasons, and unless he picks things up down the stretch he will likely set a career-low as well (27 in his rookie season).
Steve Bernier, RW, Vancouver CanucksMonday 3/10, 10:53 PM CT
Steve Bernier missed his second straight game on Monday night due to a strained groin. Bernier has five points in five games since joining the Sabres at the trade deadline two weeks ago.
Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Ottawa SenatorsMonday 3/10, 6:30 PM CT
Daniel Alfredsson likely won't return to action on Tuesday night as he is still trying overcome back spasms, this according to TSN. The team is playing it careful with their captain which isn't helping anyone in the fantasy world. Look for Alffie to return soon, but we have been thinking that for the past week.
Martin Gerber, G, Ottawa SenatorsMonday 3/10, 6:26 PM CT
Martin Gerber hasn't officially been named the Senators starter in goal, but given the way he has played and been used of late (he will start his sixth straight game on Tuesday night), it is obvious that he is currently the teams top option in net. "It's always good when you get great goaltending," said coach Bryan Murray. "All the guys want is a chance to win." Ray Emery has just about worn out his welcome in Ottawa anyway, so it appears that the Sens will go with Gerber down the stretch in their attempt to establish themselves heading into the playoffs.
Joe Thornton, C, San Jose SharksMonday 3/10, 4:08 PM CT
Joe Thornton was named NHL third star for the week ending March 9th, this according to NHL.com. Thornton led the Sharks to a 4-0 week during which time he posted seven points and was a +6. Thornton is up to 81 points on the year and has been the single most important offensive player on the Sharks squad.
Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey DevilsMonday 3/10, 4:05 PM CT
Martin Brodeur was named the NHL's second star for the week ending March 9th, this according to NHL.com. For the week Brodeur went 3-0 with a 0.98 GAA and .972 SV%. Brodeur is once again in the running for the Vezina Trophy as he has posted his 11th straight season of at least 37 victories.
Andre Roy, RW, Calgary FlamesMonday 3/10, 3:00 PM CT
Andre Roy has been sent home with pay following his disruptive behavior in the locker room and on the bench following his heated altercation with Riley Cote of the Flyers. Lightning GM Jay Feaster stated, "At this time I have directed Andre to take the week off away from the team, with pay, while our internal discussions and overall review continues. We will not have any further statement or comment to make at this time, and Andre has been asked by the club not to discuss the matter with the media, until such time as there is a conclusive resolution."
Alexander Ovechkin, LW, Washington CapitalsMonday 3/10, 2:24 PM CT
Alexander Ovechkin has been named NHL player of the week, according to the Canadian Press. This was no surprise as he scored a hat trick with two assists against the Bruins and added two more goals against Buffalo, as well as notching three assists in the past two games of last week. He now has notched 54 goals and 41 assists for the season.
Eric Belanger, C, Minnesota WildMonday 3/10, 1:40 PM CT
Eric Belanger has a broken big toe on his right foot, according to the Canadian Press. There is no timetable set for his return. He scored 36 points over 69 games this season.
Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York RangersMonday 3/10, 10:18 AM CT
Henrik Lundqvist stopped all 29 shots against the Bruins in regulation Sunday night, as well as neutralizing three shootout tries, en route to his ninth shutout of the season.
