Chris Osgood will receive the start in goal tonight with Dominik Hasek still nursing a sore back. Hasek left practice early on Wednesday after tightening up, this according to the Detroit Free Press. "I don't think it's anything serious," Hasek said. "I just didn't feel well on the ice. I'd like to be back tomorrow; if not, for sure on the weekend." Osgood was terrific in his last performance and the Red Wings seem to have turned around an early March slump.

Mattias Ohlund did not travel with the team on its trip to Phoenix, this according to TSN.ca. The defenseman has flown back to Vancouver to undergo knee surgery to remove bone chips. "After further consultation with our team doctors it was determined that surgery was the best course of action," said general manager Dave Nonis in a statement. "The best long term decision for Mattias and our hockey club is to have this addressed immediately." The bone chips have forced Ohlund to play through too much pain and the anti-inflammatory medication he was taking wasn't effective. Vancouver will sorely miss Ohlund's presence, as will fantasy owners in PIM leagues.

Chris Pronger is not expected to face disciplinary action from the NHL front office for stomping on Vancouver Canucks Ryan Kesler on Wednesday night, this according to TSN.ca. Kesler - one of two Canuck forwards who chased down the puck behind the goal line - collided with Pronger along the boards and fell, and the Ducks captain appeared to deliberately step on him. Kesler did not suffer any injuries from after the incident. Pronger has been solid for the defending champs contributing 43 points on the season, 12 coming by goals.

Ottawa plays an important game tonight against Montreal. It will mark Gerber's seventh consecutive start. The net controversy between Gerber and Ray Emery appears to have been settled, with Emery and his attitude out. Gerber has won two straight and hasn't allowed more than three goals in any of his past five outings.

The news was bad for Martin Havlat and his injured left shoulder on Wednesday. The Chicago winger will have surgery today and miss at least the next four months. This is the third shoulder surgery Havlat has undergone in his NHL career and the problem appears to be chronic. Havlat scored 27 points in 35 games this season, but the 26-year-old seemingly can't stay on ice.
