Sarasota, FL (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Reds agreed with third baseman Edwin Encarnacion on a two-year contract, avoiding arbitration.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Encarnacion's arbitration hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday in Arizona. The 26-year-old asked for $3.7 million, while the Reds countered with $2.55 million.

In 2008, Encarnacion batted .251 to go with a career-high 26 homers and 68 runs batted in. In parts of four seasons with the Reds, Encarnacion has compiled a .266 batting average, 66 home runs and 247 RBI.
