Lakeland, FL (Sports Network) - Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jeremy Bonderman's sore right shoulder showed no significant damage, after he underwent an exam arranged by team medical staff.

Bonderman returned to Detroit on Monday to have the ailing shoulder checked after experiencing stiffness since tossing his second batting practice session of the spring last week. Tests confirmed nothing more serious than inflammation.

For now, the right-hander will continue to take anti-inflammatory medication, but will not begin throwing again until the soreness disappears.

Bonderman missed the second half of the 2008 campaign following surgery to correct thoracic outlet compression syndrome, which is a pinching of the vein responsible for returning blood from the arm to the heart and caused a clot.

The veteran finished 3-4 with a 4.29 earned run average in 12 starts last season. Over his six years in Detroit, the 26-year-old has posted a 59-66 record with a 4.74 ERA in 169 games, including 163 starts.
