A's agree to terms with Garciaparra Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Nomar Garciaparra, the team announced Friday. The Garciaparra deal comes the same week that Oakland agreed to terms with infielder Orlando Cabrera. In 2008, Garciaparra played just 55 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, mostly at shortstop, hitting .264 with eight homers and 28 runs batted in. The injury-filled season came after he appeared in 243 combined games between 2006 and 2007 for the Dodgers. Garciaparra won the NL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2006, as he batted .303 in 122 games with 20 home runs and 93 RBI. Garciaparra, 35, is a six-time All-Star, won the AL Rookie of the Year award in 1997 while with Boston, and won a pair of AL batting titles (1999, 2000) with the Red Sox. In 1,369 career games with Boston (1996-2004), the Chicago Cubs (2004-05) and the Dodgers (2006-08), Garciaparra has hit .314 with 226 homers, 920 RBI and a .525 slugging percentage. |
