Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Bengals announced Friday they have agreed to terms with free agent quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan.

O'Sullivan began last season as San Francisco's starting quarterback, starting the club's first eight games. He appeared in nine games total, throwing for 1,678 yards on 128-of-220 passing with eight touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

"J.T. saw a lot of action last year and we see him as a player with still a lot of upside," said Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski. "He has experience in a number of systems and is a very sharp guy. We're happy to have him as a backup to Carson (Palmer)."

A sixth-round choice by New Orleans in 2002, the 29-year-old quarterback has thrown for 1,826 yards in his career with nine touchdowns and 13 picks in 14 games with Green Bay, Detroit and San Francisco.

Ryan Fitzpatrick served as Cincinnati's backup QB last season and appeared in 13 games after Palmer was limited to just four games due to injury. However, Fitzpatrick signed with Buffalo this offseason.
